    Any other pilots?

My current job is flying Britten Norman Islanders, aka the flying Land Rover. It's a rugged bushplane but the closest I get to putting it through the paces is landing on our 1700 foot grass runway. I can usually get it stopped in half that distance at 6200 lb gross. Really want to move to...

anyone still use a beam scale?

Ive thrown out two electronic scales. They couldn't be trusted. These were older models so don't know about the newer ones. My old rcbs (ohaus) beam scale has been foolproof for 20 years.

    Hall of Fame- Gear Version

Eureka tents. I have had my alpenlite xt for over 20 years. Its held up great. Last fall I lost one of the connectors and emailed Eureka to see if I could buy a replacement anywhere since the tent was long out of production. They sent me the connector free of charge, I didn't even have...

    Baiting far From Home

Last fall I baited a spot 3 hours from my house. I tried to get there twice a week and had bear come in. Put out as much food as you can with each trip. A couple problems made me decide to try for a tag closer to home from now on. First, when you put out a ton of food, most of it gets...

I am still going turkey hunting in my back yard in a couple weeks. Wouldn't want to be headed out of state. Hang in there, things will get better.

Out of 4 states to live.....

Ive lived and hunted in Michigan since the 70s. We have definitely lost hunters here. Used to sound like a war zone on opening morning of deer season. Now I hear a couple shots per hour.

    454 Casull? Looking for advice.

The recoil in the Toklat isn't bad. The grip really fit my hand well. Mine had large cylinder throats and the chambers were pretty loose too. I couldn't get hunting accuracy with it but it would be fine for bear defense.

New car- To AWD or not to AWD

Mini vans with just front wheel drive are terrible in snow. We had to sell our honda mini van even after putting snow tires on it. Theres just too much weight over the back tires for front wheel drive.

What is your favorite hunting dog and why ?

Here's my bad arse bluetick relaxing in the sun sitting at the kitchen table. This tough sob survived chained up outside for three months Michigan winter without food or water before we adopted him. He couldn't even get in his dog house anymore because of the deep snow. He was 35 pounds...

Anyone come to a realization how much weight they could cut...

Im the same height as the OP. Three years ago I weighed 212 pounds. I set my mind to lose weight and got down to 160. I felt weak and could only carry my 50 pound pack about two miles without taking a long break. Now Im at 175 and feel much healthier, more strength and energy.

How did people ever camp in cold weather without a sleeping pad?

A thick layer of pine or cedar boughs. Bank up your tent with snow. Heat up large rocka by the fire and bring them in the tent with you. Have a dog or close companion to snuggle with.
