just wondering if anyone still uses them, and their input on brand, model etc.

I have a frankfurt digital scale that is about to get thrown out a window as I am constantly having to re-zero it.

so thinking about going old school but have literally never used a beam scale before.

Just reloading for bolt guns, 20 - 40 round batches

how do I know if its pre china?

I'm not sure when the changed. I have one I bought in 94 and another I bought a few years ago....the new one is China. It works, but it is definitely cheaper build.

I use a 10-10 beam scale also. Chargemaster set .2 grs below target weight then trickle up to target weight on the beam scale. Slow as hell but I can't fully trust a digital scale

I throw charges slightly under and then use a RCBS M500 beam scale and powder trickler to top it off.

Ive thrown out two electronic scales. They couldn't be trusted. These were older models so don't know about the newer ones. My old rcbs (ohaus) beam scale has been foolproof for 20 years.

I can’t stand the slowness and inconsistency of a beam scale. I would stop reloading, if I had to go back to that. I’ll take my Chargemaster over a beam scale any day.

I use an old RCBS 505 just to do random checks against my Chargemaster. I really like the charge master though, I rarely have an issue with it.

I here ya, I have been looking at buying a chargemaster lite but man for that price tag if it had errors I would lose it lol
figured mechanical scales would be far more reliable, and less expensive

I use a chargemaster to throw the loads and double check every one on my RCBS 505. The chargemaster speeds up the process and is usually within 1 kernel or so of perfect. I use a trickler to add the granules or use needle nose pliers to take a couple out, whichever is necessary.

I only go to these great lengths on my hunting rifle loads. .223 for pinking with my AR's and pistol loads get measured using a Hornady powder dispenser with weights being checked every 10-20 rounds or so.

I got mine from Brownells for 200 45 day return for cash policy and I think if it breaks after that they give you store credit or swap it out

I use a 505, and it seems to be 100% repeatable to me. I never seem to have any zero drift (sets on a very stable bench in a place where it never gets moved or bumped). I’ve checked it by reweighing the same charge over and over, and it always balances back to zero. I’ve got loads for multiple rifles loaded with it with single digit SD and low teens ES. Not sure what else I would ask for. I’m sure the electric dispensers/tricklers are nice, but I don’t want to have to worry about what electronics are running in the room.
