Selling my 2016 Bear Wild Bow setup, complete with three pin sight, 5 arrow quiver, TrueFire Wrist Release, 4x Limbsaver Bow vibration reducers, and 4 Victory VForce 400gr arrows (no field points or broadheads) and owners manual.
This is an awesome bow, I've just outgrown it. Massively...
I hunt does as well, quick field dress and brought whole back to the truck. Then boned out to speed cooling and into game bags above frozen water jugs. Be careful to remove as much fur from the meat as possible before cooling. It takes two people less than 30' to bone out a goat I'd recommend...
For treestand bowhunting, it's the best scent control I've found among fabrics. But I'll take good preparation and rain gear above some theory about "warm when wet" anyday. I've never been warm while wet during hunting season.
+1 for this, and I'd add knock down any tall grass or bushes where you run your hot wire. You don't want anything coming into contact with the wire which gets wet and sucks the current out of your perimeter security.
First start by speaking with the landowner, get as much on the ground and recent information you can from the folks who live there and see animals daily. You can also contact WY G&F for a list of local landowners contact information who are participating in Walk in Areas, WMAs, etc. Other than...
Pintler is rated to 2500 cubic inches, packs an elk quarter with ease and can double as a good 3-4 day overnight pack too. Lightweight but a little spendy.
Second this. I worked for a hunting outfitter in the West a few years packing elk and we always carried 870 with Brenneke Black Magic or even the Green Lightening rounds or a 45/70 with 430+ grain hard cast lead. A nice aftermarket recoil pad is a bonus.
There are a number of local landowners willing to allow hunters on (though sometimes with access fees), if you contact the Buffalo G&F office ((307) 684-2801)) they can give you a list of landowner contact numbers. Areas 3, 5 (Thunder Basin) and 6 generally produce the best harvest % for Mule deer.
Absolutely - you earn your elk, and as many have said you don't want to look back and regret what you passed up early in the hunt when you're headed back to the truck! Public land, no preference points, I'd take that spike bull.
This is a big debate among some of my buddies right now, most of which run a .300 WINMAG for elk and something like a .243 for antelope and deer. One camp argues the 6.5 is the new savior "do it all" caliber capable of replacing the need for multiple rifle, and potentially at a weight savings...
