    Netherman's 2024 Western Hunt Recap

Pictures or it didn't happen. Sounds like a couple great hunts though!

Slovenia Chamois and Fallow buck hunt

First part sounds like a great hunt at least. Mind sharing your broker info? I'm in Germany for a few years for work and looking around for some hunts while I can. Do they let you take the meat home?

What’s the coolest thing you found in the back country

Exploring around a swamp in SE VA as a kid and came across a roostery? rookery? of white egrets. There were thousands of them in the trees with their chicks making noise, a bunch of dead ones all over the ground and poop / feathers / bones / skulls from prior years spread everywhere making the...

What Emergencies Have You Had Before Season Start?

Hurricane Harvey in Houston arrived the night before I was to drive up. I delayed my departure a few hours, but we woke up and thought everything was fine so I packed up and headed out. 16 hour drive later and just as I was hiking up the first trail my wife Inreached me saying she was being...

Anyone pulling an enclosed trailer with a midsize V6?

I pulled a trailer from Houston to El Paso in a V6 Nissan Frontier, mostly flat other than the hill country section... it suuucked. Stopping for gas every 150 miles because of the small tank and no wind control or speed. Was happy once I parked it because I loved that truck offroad out there...

Birkhühner in den Alpen! The worlds second most expensive chicken dinner.

Cool trip, sounds like you're living not too far from where I am currently. I'll be interested to hear how your other hunts turn out.

    45-70 elk bullets

I've not gotten an elk with one, but I've hit quite a few deer with the Barnes 300gr TSX and every single time I am impressed with the results. Usually pass throughs with major expansion. I can't imagine a world where a 300gr hollow point doesn't put a serious hurt on anything at 150 yards.

    Places near Wilmington

Bald Head Island - Golf carts only island, only accessible by ferry. It's spendy and a PITA to get there but I LOOOOVVVEEEE that place if you're just trying to relax on the beach. It's where weekend at Bernies was filmed which is always fun.

    Creepy experiences in the backcountry

Not backcountry, but it happened last night so it's still fresh, and I love this thread. My 2 year old was doing 2 year old things at 3am and it was my turn to lay her back down. I go in her room, settle her back down in her bed and sit down in the chair to wait out her falling back asleep. Of...

    Islamorada flyfish guide recommendation

I fished with Barry Hoffman a few years back. He went DEEP into the back country and we landed several snook, reds and other stuff. Some guides will stay within a few miles of the ramp which is annoying. He was also a pretty cool guy and taught me some new things on the poling skiff.

Houston TX Youth Hunt Trip Planning

Fully onboard with not naming units and whatnot out west, but if you know Texas permit hunts, you'll know that it's not spot burning in the slightest by naming the WMA they are hunting on. And yes to the others, bring your Thermacell(s)

Houston TX Youth Hunt Trip Planning

Justin Hurst WMA? If so you'll have a good time, assigned blinds and interesting place. Not much down in that area to see but you can take a stroll down the jetty at Surfside, hire a fishing guide (I can send some suggestions if interested), grab a beer at Bridge Bait and watch the tugs on the...

    Italy/ Europe

Mind sharing some of the rivers that you've targeted for trout so far? I've recently moved to Southern Germany and still sorting out a few things but the licensing requirements are not my favorite. We're planning trips to northern Italy in the near future. For 'hunting' however I have found fun...

    Military service late in life

Sounds like you're having a mid life crisis there, you sure a fast car wouldn't help? I just spent 1.5 months away from my family for work, it sucks.

    Creepy experiences in the backcountry

Here's mine, not nearly as scary now that I think about it, but at the time (20 years ago, pre-cell phone) I was not too thrilled. Back in the sticks of VA when I was 13-14 my dad dropped me off at our lease property so I could get the afternoon hunt in. The plan was to pick me up once the sun...

    First Time Texas Tags Recommendations

I always applied to a bunch and would get selected to 1-2 a year. Not the highest quality ones, but still fun to see something different. The guys who say they havent pulled a tag in 15 years are only applying to the golden tickets with high success rates, lower your standards / be willing to...

Moving to the UK and hunting/"Outdoorsing" options in Europe?

I moved to Germany last fall for a 3-4 year stint with my job. All above are correct and I left all my boom sticks with family while I'm away. I've done my homework on local-ish hunts and Austria, Romania, Spain, Poland are all great options for hunting in the quick flight range. After that look...

    Which animal would you hunt?

One note. Ask them what the most difficult to hunt would be. Trust me when I say that in some of these situations you'll drive around in the truck until you see one, which may not take long... at all. Or you can ask to do a more spot / stalk or a stand hunt over a feeder. Usually they will set...

Older Tacoma or Frontier? Help me choose.

Had a 2012 Frontier 4.0l. Put 150k on her and only ever had to replace the front struts. Surprisingly capable offroad including some pretty hairy situations and honestly I wish I hadnt sold her. Backseat isnt comfortable, but neither is the Taco's. Also sucks at towing anything even remotely...
