Thanks for pointing that out Wind Gypsy, they are weaver mount unless you get the adapter which will raise them too high anyway… not sure how I missed that. Any budget recommendations for decent Picatinny rings? I have Talleys on my Tikka and they’ve been good, is it safe to assume their...
I’m helping my 12 yo put together his first big game rifle and am hoping one of you may know what height rings we need. He’s getting a Ruger American g2 in 6.5 CM and a Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40. I’ve read good things about Sportsmatch rings here, so that combined with the price made that...
This is the first I’ve heard of Natural Asset Companies, if this passes I’m sure it will be used against hunters.

I was hesitant about my boys using 223 to hunt deer a couple years ago, but they have had great results with the 62g federal fusion. My youngest son is also small for his age, so an ar has been great in that regard as well with the adjustable stock.
A couple years ago a mulie doe ran out and smacked into the side of my truck one evening. I got out to check for damage to the truck in the deer. The deer was just laying in the road and there was no damage to my truck. I nudged the dears back and it jumped up and took off running and appeared...
Thanks for your thoughts on this guys. I’m in the process of reading the Why match/target bullets for hunting thread. I definitely see the logic of increased wound channel/carnage of those bullets, and will probably give them a try.
Roosiebull, your experience on that elk with the TA or AB is...
Thank you guys for your feedback. I’ve read most of the 223 for deer, elk, moose thread and have shared it with a few friends, pretty impressive! I haven’t read the Why match/target bullets for hunting but will definitely do so soon.
Last year I got my son a Ruger American in 6.5 Creedmoor. Last year he shot a white tail buck at 220 yards, broadside in the lungs (no shoulder) with a 129 grain Interlock. It performed fine and killed the deer but no exit. I wasn’t surprised that it wasn’t a pass through due to the bullet. My...
I just became aware that some states are allowing or considering allowing hunters to wear pink instead of orange. I’ll be sticking to orange.

This is a great thread!
When my son was about 3 we lived in the country and he peed outside a lot. One day we were in town at Shopko and he was following my wife and I as we headed back to the car after checking out. Just outside the exit drawers he dropped his pants and peed on the sidewalk...
Not a TMK, but I’ll add one more experience with the Federal Fusion 62 grain that has also been discussed. A few weeks ago my son shot a good size whitetail at 180 yards when it was facing directly at him with a 16” AR. Hit him center chest and he took off and ran about 150 yards up a hill and...
I have two sons that I’ve been taking hunting since they were ages 6 and 8. As already mentioned by others I have been careful not to push too hard and give them a bad experience that will turn them off for hunting. My older son has always enjoyed it in small doses, but isn’t in to working too...
