I really feel people who say things like you just did are jerks.
Wish Arkansas would follow suit. We just upped our OoS tag prices last year, but they are still way too cheap. And judging by the amount of Texas tags I see on our public land, they could triple the new price.
Thread from 2021. Well I just read every post. I loaded the 162 grain Eldx in my 7MM RM brass to the first accuracy node with I4350 which is right at 2800 fps. Hopefully at that velocity it will hold together OK on deer and not make a mess of things. Is it possible Hornady has toughened it up a...
So how does benchrest shooting equate into this conversation? OK what kind of rifles are used for 1000 yard shooting? Energy is a measure , though imperfect, of a bullets capability. Just a mathematical way to compare mass at speed. However it is the standard we use and is as good a method as...
Well it depends on how long between shots for those 20 shot groups. Are you saying a 7MM remington magnum or a 30-06 are heavy recoiling rifles? I don't shoot groups when hunting and don't take shots in non ideal positions if there is any distance involved. I do shoot a lot from "field type...
Or has no issues shooting a 7-08 instead of a 223 on deer and hogs or using a 30-06 on an elk hunt. The low testosterone comment was mostly to draw out the sensitive types. A more appropriate answer would be than most shoot paper or do very little shooting. Yes if you don't shoot much a soft...
It's just like anything else, new toys. Buy a rifle, find loads it likes, put it in the gun safe. Rinse repeat. The WSM cartridges were a perfect example of this. As were the SAUM and RUM series of cartridges.
Oh the horror! No one is giving up precision by using a 7MM RM or 300 Win Mag. In no way does a 6.5 increase hit rates. What increases hit rates is taking shots within your level of competency and the cartridges capability. However bullet mass and energy have their place.
Most of my elk hunting was done on hunts where we camped out in the wilderness for 2 weeks or more. Below zero temps, lots of snow. Just don't see a reason not to tape a muzzle.
A basic cleaning kit? A cleaning rod that would be unnecessary to carry if you taped your muzzle? I carry a pull through which would not help much with a mud plugged barrel.
Well I'm not sure why your unable to get "very proficient" with larger cartridges. With my 30-06 and 7MM RM I can shoot 1" groups, they handle pretty much like my other rifles. I shoot a lot of different rifles mostly 7-08 to 6AR in a volume of shooting most would be lucky to be able to do. I...
On the other hand I don 't see anything wrong about hunting with 30 caliber rifles. What is up with caliber bigotry? I find the 308 a very useful tool as is the 30-06. The recoil might be a bit much for extended strings at the bench for some but for sighting in and some practice I see no problem.
I have an early Model 7 in 7-08 that is my favorite deer rifle presently. I shoot 145 gr. Speer SPBT's and Nosler 140 grain Partitions generally getting around 2600 fps from it's 18 inch barrel. Absolutely perfect for my purposes.
My go to factory load is the 150 grain Power Point from Winchester because I like Winchester brass better than Remington. However I have shot a lot of deer with it and a couple elk. Works perfectly every time.
