    CA fatal lion attack

This was recorded recently in Kalispell, MT, which isn't exactly known as a liberal haven and where lion hunting regulations are permissive: https://www.reddit.com/r/Montana/s/BrbuMzWdVM Mountain lions are incredibly effective specialists, and where our habitats intersect and food sources...

    CA fatal lion attack

This is really sad. I've had up close and personal (sub 30 yard) encounters with lions twice in the past year, immediately adjacent to a fairly densely populated neighborhood. I live in a western state with liberal access to over the counter, dog assisted lion hunting opportunity. Doesn't...

Swarovski ATC 17-40x56mm Review, By Court Gordon

I just sent mine back to Swarovski for evaluation and possibly repair. It has a strange grayish haze in the middle especially in bright conditions with a lighter background. I think I could see a couple specs behind the objective, not sure if that's what's causing it. Hopefully they fix...

    The holy grail from Sitka......

I can't imagine anyone who thinks pee bottles are unnecessary has ever slept in a tent in subzero F temps for multiple nights, or driven around in a rental car all day in an urban setting with no public bathrooms. Or they just have way superior bladder technique.

    The holy grail from Sitka......

I buy gas station sandwiches in these occasionally, throw the sandwich away, and carry homemade sandwiches in the container until it's destroyed. I also buy Gatorade for no reason other than the pee bottle.

    Elk salt licks

I always pack them a couple miles away and throw them off the mountain when I find them.

    A nation of wimps?

I, for one, don't get anywhere near enough praise for my elite toughness from all the imaginary people who surround me, who I think about all day, and who are much, much weaker than me.

    Maui

Wow, sweet-thanks! I was trying to figure out where to buy a target. I've lived in Montana for 15 years. I will be staying with family on Maui. You live there I take it?

    Maui

I'll be on Maui, mostly on leave, from mid January through the end of March. I'm recovering from an injury, but the outlook is good, so I'm bringing my bow. If you're there, and interested in shooting bows, chasing critters, fishing, etc., let me know. 🤙

ScopeCam, Galaxy 22 pro, and ATC

I'm having trouble getting good pics and video with the setup described in the title. A couple recent examples attached, from clear but windy conditions, from probably 800 yards. Any answers to the following questions are much appreciated. Should the eye cup on the viewing lens be twisted in...

    Snow Shoes

The lightning ascents are impressive. I have several hundred miles on a pair I got for about $225 three years ago. The heel risers, aggressive crampons, and relative light weight enable them to climb gnarly stuff, and they really cut down on the energy expenditure and injury potential relative...

    Hunting suppressor

This is great. I have a harvester evo in jail for my t3x roughtech 308. Came so close to spending 2.5x more for a 46M that would almost certainly not have improved my experience much at all. Feel like I made the right call. And may have to thread my 10 year old t3 300 wm now.

    Hide-A-Key

I carry my key unless it's a week+ A-to-B to a shuttle car, in which case I bag it and nail it to a tree way away from the car. I've had friends get their keys thrown down the mountain, stolen, fobs killed by moisture etc. Too many times. I thread the keyring onto a sewn loop in my pack, so...

    Paintball gun as bear deterrent

We experience high levels of black bear activity at our house from spring through fall. We're very disciplined about attractants, but unfortunately the same can't be said for many of our neighbors. One genius feeds them I think. An industrious young bear was recently euthanized after breaking...

    MSR has problems (imho)

The MSR Advance Pro 2 is my favorite tent. Not just my favorite 4 season, not just my favorite single wall, not just my favorite 2p. My favorite tent. I use it for everything from summer scouting to multinight skimo missions. Guess it works in my favor that I don't care about condensation at...

Stone Glacier Grumman Goose Down Jacket and Pants

A two way zipper would solve the tight waist issue, and is just generally a feature that increasingly imo every insulated top should have. It would only increase the weight by one zipper pull which is well worth the added functionality even for a UL piece in my view.

    Swarovski 17-40 ATC

Did you end up sending your scope in? If so, what was the result if you don't mind sharing? I've had my ATC for about 3 months. I'm injured, so before today had only been glassing whitetails from the house with it on the same fairly dark grassy ridge, day in and day out. Other than some loss of...

Switching to Tennis Shoes / Trail Runners from Mountaineering Boots.

I have 200 mi of gnarly off trail (steep alpine scree and cliffs, dense lodgepole blowdown, etc.) on a pair of Hoka Speedgoat 5 Mid's from last year, with and without weight. I'm never wearing anything else in moderate weather conditions again, no matter the terrain. 310 g, and enough volume for...
