Wife and I made a couple's trip to fill our tags on Montana opening weekend. She filled both of hers and I got a buck. I kept my B tag unfilled so I could hunt with my son while he fills his two this weekend. Super fun trip and my wife's first two big game animals to make it even better.
Lungs on antelope gets that a lot. It's no big deal. They are narrow and there's simply not a lot of flesh there to open the bullet. If you look through the 6mm/243 hunting success thread there are tons of reports on that bullet from deer and elk with much less movement after the shot because it...
Thank you for the detailed response. I'm terrible concerned about a little running with antelope. I mean, you can watch them. LOL. Totally agree with trying to limit damage. We love the meat and saving as much of that as possible is key.
I'll see what I get with accuracy with the ELDX. Might...
That one was two inches, yes. The other two impacts at 225 and 125 yards were smaller.
So would you recommend another bullet for this purpose? This is a 6ARC cut to 18".
Would I see a larger wound channel on an elk? This is pretty much going to make the decision on whether to carry this for my...
Could be the case. All three had exits and none were huge holes. So maybe I just need to temper my expectations.
We are headed back this weekend to fill my kid's two tags and I kept my B tag so I could hunt some more. I'll get some more data and report back. 😂
This is the rifle for a few more...
That's my wife's buck from 325 yards. Here first time shooting sitting from the tripod. Man...I was nervous about that since we hadn't practiced it but she swore to me she had the shot. And she did.
That said, a lightweight carbon ball head tripod will come with us on all hunts moving forward...
Trying to figure out how an exit in the pocket is barely clipping but OK. Another had an entrance in the pocket with the exit in the front leg muscle adjacent to the knee joint. These shots were not "barely clipping" lungs. They were placed to avoid as much meat damage as possible.
Regardless...
Literally looking at these this morning for my 9yo. He will be 10 next month and ready for his first big game hunt with a tag in his pocket.

These are my first animals with ELDMs. I guess I just expected more from the stories/pics and from what I saw with a 6.5mm ELDX last year on lung shots. LOL. But they did the job. Going to kill some more stuff with them this weekend.
Well this was fun. Absolutely love this rifle. Kills were 125-325 yards with 108 ELDM. All three ran about 200 yards with single or double lung shots. Not thrilled about that though. Expected at least one bang flop. My wife got here first two big game animals with the rifle.
I was able to get three kills with my Howa Mini 6ARC this weekend on antelope. Bullet is a factory loaded 108 ELD-M. Velocity based on dope should be about 2550 at the muzzle. Impact velocity should be in the 2400-2100 range. We had kills from 125 - 325 yards. All three were at least one lung...
My kids don't play those sports specifically due to the high concussion potential but nice try. Glad we can agree on that.
Lessen it... you mean like a suppressor. Exactly.
March seems like overpriced junk.

Most Zeiss scopes seem to act like this one also...
Believe what you want. But there are actual studies about this. The data DOES exist. You just choose to ignore it because you want to be macho or something. The fact is that muzzle blast damages the brain. You are arbitrarily saying that less is OK but it's simply not. It's just less. Children...
Human anatomy and muzzle blast isn't different for different people. It's the same. Inner ear concussion happens even with ear protection with muzzle brake use. The ear protection does zero for what I am talking about. The force travels through the bones of the skull. The skull doesn't even...
If your kids are shooting with brakes they are getting mildly concussed with every shot. Just like everyone else on the firing line. Yeah. Brain dead.
Talk about Koolaid.
