Looking at the ever increasing points needed for general rifle deer has me looking at general muzzleloader. By the numbers/tags it looks like 1/3 the hunters and 2/3 the success. What is your experience and general feelings with it compared to rifle?

Personally I prefer the muzzy hunt. Less people, I feel the success is pretty comparable and the weather is perfect. Not as hot as the bow hunt, and not as cold as the rifle hunt. You don't have to wear orange and the deer are less pressured. I would take a muzzy tag over a rifle tag any day.

Thanks. I assume the bucks are still somewhat "visible?' Not on the same level as archery but better than gun season where it seems like they are really hiding.

Once they strip velvet they definitely seem to drop into cover a little more. Like you said, not as visible as archery season, but more visible than mid October.

I'll nuke the thread if you all can confirm what @Westhunt is saying or share any other thoughts. PM works.

I'm just looking for a little more info.

A little more info is available if you go hunt it. Lots of things used to have good draw odds/availability until people ran their mouths on the internet.
IMO Utah's MZ season is a little too late to be ideal. It's a tossup between bucks disappearing and catching the last of their summer pattern. Most often if the weather is mild I've found it to be the former.

I’ve had good success hunting the UT muzzy hunt…. Until this year.
This year it took everything I had to turn up a buck. Was by far the worst hunt I’ve had in a while. They were ghost. Then come rifle hunt, they showed back up. Just depends on year to year and what part of the state your in.
