I only shoot tikkas so a 3 round mag in the rifle, a 5 round mag EASILY/FAST accessible on the chest pack, a 5 round mag in the top lid of my pack and one "because" round in my emergency kit.
14 total.

I mainly posted this thread so that others like myself, are aware that this crap happens now. I've never even dreamed about my stuff being stolen in the backcountry...
Till now.
I'm very keen of situational awareness and will be more so now that this occurred.
FWIW......this was a couple...
I went through this a couple of weeks ago elk hunting. Busting overgrown trails with different kinds of vegetation.......a couple of us looked like axe murderers.
It was warm out so I had my sleeves rolled up but long sleeves are the way to go. No issues then.

And he was in a fairly remote area. I still can't see someone doing that. Shit, half the time I leave all my stuff at camp while I'm packing meat out.
I do believe in karma....I just wish I could speed it along.

My coworker relayed this story to me this morning as it was our first day back after a 4 day weekend.
His nephew is a stud and an absolute machine in the mountains along with being a devoted, ethical passionate hunter.......a great guy as I know him.
He hunts solo and packed in a few miles this...
I always suggest to carry a go bag with you to be comfortable for a couple days. Food, water, shelter, sleeping bag, inreach, etc. Only person you can depend on is YOU. Lots of other good advice here as well.
