In 32 years of hunting, I have left 3 animals "overnight". First was a bull with a questionable hit right before dark. Followed very intermittent blood for a couple hundred yards in pretty rough stuff, and heard the bull get up and take off. Found the bed about 200yds from where the bull was...
How many poorly hit animals have you pushed for miles that otherwise would have bedded within a few hundred yards and died?
There are definitely times to let some go several hours to overnight, the tough part is knowing when to make that call.
I have left a bear overnight (well 10pm to 5am) in...
We have been dealing with big larch and fir. With the deep bark, it just gets pretty dirty after getting it to the road. Hasnt been a problem in the past, but just so wet this year. We are up to 7 loads, and I bet 4 of them were in the rain....
Probably try the semi on 1 saw. I actually like...
Any experience semi-chisel vs full?
Keep reading that semi deals with dirty wood better, and as wet a spring as we are having everything we get to the road is pretty dirty.......
Have always used full chisel...
The bark on this stuff is tight still. Split a load of it last night, it splits nice and straight, but man does it have some moisture in it still. We have burned mostly Bug killed lodge pole for the last 20 years with the odd doug fir or larch mixed in, but now even the lodge pole is getting...
I would imagine that law enforcement around here is very busy, since our population in the valley has what looks like, atleast doubled? No excuse, but pretty likely, as the news reporters (tv and radio) have been besides themselves getting to report all the crimes and accidents almost daily now....
That particular tree, dead standing for many years, and then was in the wood shed split 5 months, was very dry. It was pretty crazy, but the second load into the stove with that tree and I had a chimney fire, but chimney was clean just before starting to burn that tree, and just smoldered and...
It is funny how trees can be different from each other, but larch generally makes pretty awesome firewood.........if you can find any. Had a rather old one a few years ago, 3ft+ rounds the a couple whack with the maul, and it just fell to pieces...
That tree was the absolute worst firewood I...
No, kept away from heat for sure. Used boot dryer a couple times on the summits, but found they dry pretty quickly with the insoles out just sitting overnight.
Used 95 nosler bt on 1 deer this year. Was about 75 yards, behind shoulder a couple inches.
Bullet exited after destroying the insides of that deer. Damage was similar to what I have seen with close range soft 130 grn bullets in 270win.
