Both are tough boots and I feel comfortable recommending either. For me personally, I really like the 8" Explorer. I have several other brands over the years before we started with the Explorer, and it is just a super comfortable boot with outstanding performance. The Armor Pro is really...
Adding a lightweight insole inside the liner works great. I actually do this with my pacs. When it gets really cold out, I pull the insole out and double up my sock for extra warmth.
The stiffness of the 800 gram hunter is about right. Firm enough to keep your foot stable on uneven terrain yet flexible in the front of the boot to allow the boot to flex and keep your heel seated. The 800 grams of Thinsulate is great for those cold mornings.
Length is tuff to get out of a boot stretch - we can definitely stretch the width as more stretchers are designed for this purpose. We do have a device geared for stretching boots length wise, but it is not that effective.

Give the Hoffman Explorer a try. Same type / class of boot as the Mountain Extreme but with a more flexible mid-sole to help keep the heel seated. Great fitting boot that has solved a lot of this type of problem.
Glad to help. Send them in with a note stating what we are doing and mark exactly where you need me to stretch them. Send them to Hoffman Boots Attn: Jim Hoffman 100 E Riverside Ave. Kellogg, Id 83837
Hi all
I just wanted to take a few minutes to answer a questions we hear from time to time.........who is Hoffman Boots? Hoffman's manufacturing was started by my dad and his two brothers back in 1973. Already cobblers for many years and a few generations of experience to build on, the...
Please don't forget about this boot. Our Hoffman Explorer is a great boot for the person looking for a stiffer boot for stability but also with a tapered midsole, adds some flex to the front of the boot......the perfect balance.
Our Hoffman Explorer boots have a tapered mid-sole. A heavier 7mm nylon midsole in the heel area for stability then tapering down to a 5 1 /2 mm towards the ball of the foot forward. This gives a person a firm boot but still some flex in the fore part of the boot. A great combination.
They are rigid for sure but do have a little flex in the ball of the foot area. The Meindl Logger is the same boot without the insulation if you do not need it and they are 15% off with the current sale for Memorial day sale.
