My 700 would shoot BH very well. Really do not think you need a mag primer though. The 700 BP is so short regular shot gun primers shoot very well. With a Mag primer you will tend to close the flash channel in the breech plug down very quickly.
No matter which primer you might use you will...
sorry to hear that you might be retiring from ML hunting! Not sure that I am not to far away from that also. My lower back and hips are really hurting!
Well FINALLY! It cooled off enough that i felt comfortable to go out to the Rock Pit and get some shooting in! But I did take a fire extinguisher with me just in case.
The goal was to shoot this new 45 and make sure it was ready for the upcoming rifle deer season. Plus I needed to verify which...
I just put this post up on a different ML site.
Also remember the things I say are what works for me over many years of doing this ML thing. So what I say often goes against a lot of what other people say and do. And that is alright - do what works for you.
It applies to both T7 and BH that...
Well actually I do not think so - I do wish it were a little closer - but that should work. If the hammer were sticking out of the nose of the bolt, I would be more positive.
There would be test you could do but since Knight has had the rifle - I am almost positive they have the possible...
Which primer may work the best and most consistent is really tied directly to your breech plug and the outside temps. Western Powders always recommended Magnum primers because they had no idea what type of rifle or breech plug your rifle might have. And their whole goal was to have the powder go...
This is what need

And one of these

This will convert you FPJ bolt to a bare primer bolt...
These seasons were intended as primitive weapon seasons.
That is not always the case. In Idaho where we really have some outdated rules, most of ML seasons are set for animal control! Here the fish and Game has to pay land owners for animal destruction on their private property. In the winter...
If you are using 209 ignition, more than likely you are going to have to run a damp patch before reloading. Especially with pellets. + do not use any petroleum products in the bore - synthetic oils only.
Boy..... can not argue any of those points!!!! I would whole heartedly agree!
And just so you know... with this rifle I have the same thoughts and reflections that you have. And I am shooting a lot more T7 than BH (Black Gold) these days
The Nitride finish is a huge barrier to corrosion by any BP or BP sub. That is one reason that many manufactures have offered it.
Regular blued steel bores are the most susceptible to corrosion, Stainless steal is less corrosive than blued and Nitride provides a huge barrier.
I use a lot of T7...
IME its not corrosive. So in addition, to not drawing moisture, even if you somehow get it wet it won't rust the crap out of your rifle, components, or turn into a brick.
This is not correct, It can be corrosive, but certainly not as fast other subs. To qualify for being a black powder sub it...
I am late - really late - about adding my 2 cents.... but with your $800 limit I would look really hard at a Knight DISC - no wait... if this hunt is a random thing for you and you do not have long term aspirations to continue to hunt with a ML - then heck go with a Knight Bighorn. It is a...
No not for between shots.... for between shots or when needed I use a simple Blue Windex patch - In fact I use the same patch over and over. The key is not use a 'Wet' patch but a slightly damp patch. When you get them right you do not even have to run a dry patch after. Slightly damp patch...
