What to do with 7 PRC Tikka

I was right at 3400 with 60g of h4831 sc with a can. max load is 62g per barnes data. May try some different powders as the data suggests 3700 should be possible. Bottom metal is mesa precision and mag is mountain tactical.

What to do with 7 PRC Tikka

Between 223 and 25-06. After shooting the 25-06, don’t see any reason to go bigger.

What to do with 7 PRC Tikka

I have longer mags. Have not built up any 135 rounds yet, but I believe they will fit. Was shooting 80g and was a bit disappointed in the speed. Only 3400 fps with a mid data load. I knew it would be a little slower due to only being a 22” barrel, but was about 100 fps slower than the data...

What to do with 7 PRC Tikka

Just took out two new Tikka builds to the range. 7 PRC and a 7.5 twist 25-06. The prc build was started before I read all the small caliber discussions. Now after using it, I have decided it’s not the right rifle. Now what to I do with it, new barrel in ? Swap the bolt for a smaller bolt...

    Mechanical and Civil Engineering

ME here, semi retired now and so not in the job search anymore. Colorado has some manufacturing, but a lot less than it used to have. A lot of the jobs were in oil and gas for ME’s. Time off really is more of a company specific thing than degree. I had pretty limited vacation to decent based...

    What!!?? The dreaded hearing aid

I think some of your experience is just the way they work. Unfortunately there is no magic filter to pick up the speech you want other than your own brain. Crowded spaces with lots of noise are the hardest thing to hear individual speech. If you listen to a recording, it’s all about the same...

What caused the Rokslide shift to smallest caliber and cartridges?

Listened to the Q&A podcast today and Form does address hit rates with magnums vs 22/6mm. It is a difference that can be measured. I am rethinking my deer loads for this year. Going to a much smaller weight bullet as I can’t go down in caliber, I have used that bullet successfully in a...

If limited to copper bullets, what is optimal weight by caliber?

Unfortunately they don’t offer 25 cal, 7mm or 35 cal which is what I am using.

If limited to copper bullets, what is optimal weight by caliber?

I am building a fast twist 25-06. 80g ttsx at 3700+ or 135g eldm at 2900. Interesting that recoil is about the same for both.

If limited to copper bullets, what is optimal weight by caliber?

I have read parts of all the smaller caliber match bullet threads and am on board with the concept. Also listened to form on the podcast discussing the same concept. The question is, what to do for states that ban lead bullets? Go light for caliber and really fast? Go heavy for caliber and...

    Suppressor causing chamber condensation

Don’t have an answer, but combustion does produce water. I could see that you are trapping combustion gasses and they have moisture. Then it’s not hot enough to keep it vapor. Like what happens in car exhaust when you start up. Exhaust gas has water in it, but the exhaust is cold so it...

    Suppressors

The A-10 30 cal is a hub mount 7 baffle version for under 500. I have one in jail to put on a 22 cal AR. Not as light as a Ti raptor, but half the money.

    Rimfire Suppressor

It was still louder than I expected based on other cans on center fires. I found data where someone tested that can at 127 db with 17 hmr. I need to try it on a 22lr and see how it compares. I expect the 17 hmr needs a bigger can to really be quiet.

    Rimfire Suppressor

I have a nyx mod2. Have only used it on 17 hmr so far. It’s tiny and light. Not Hollywood quiet on the hmr, but I expect that’s due to the size. Need to try it on a regular 22 lr.

    Q Trash Panda

I think there is a lot of truth to volume = quieter. I recently got to try out a few of my new cans and bigger is quieter. I was a bit disappointed in how loud 17 hmr was with a nyx mod 2, but then it’s a really small can designed for rimfire 22. I think my AB 10 stack was quieter on a 358 jdj.

    Altitude sickness question

If going uphill for a while and at higher altitude, the “rest” step is the trick. Used by mountain climbers you straighten your leg at each step. This causes a slight pause and you walk slower but don’t get out of breath. Also sharp exhale on each breath helps.

    Caliber Specific End Cap

This. AB suppressors has some videos that show real data. Less than 2db difference using the smaller endcap on a larger bore vs a dedicated bore. Less than 4 db using the larger 30 cal on a 223.

    Altitude sickness question

Having lived at 7400 ft for 20+ years, it’s not always predictable on what happens. Sometimes it’s fine, the next time it might not be. Everyone gets out of breath, the difference is how fast you recover. If you are in good shape it’s less of an issue. I talked to one doctor who said part...
