I've used the 14'r several times. The first time it was completely stuffed. No problems for the overhead bin, but a little long for under the seat. I still get away with it often though.
Took a nice pair hunting one year. Ended up leaving them on a ridgeline where I stopped to rest and glass. Remembered them about 100yds down the mountain and contemplated donating them to nature. I don't have disposable income ad felt guilty so I ended up going back up for them. PITA! I also...
Thank you for your service as well. I've been out for some time now...not using anything cool as an assault pack meant we usually just had crappy packs, compared to today's standards. We were just switching over to the Molle packs that had the suspension systems and our unit pretty much...
I have owned a 3 DAP and now own a 14'r. I used the 3 DAP as my light hiking pack and travel pack. I sold the 3 DAP because in my uses, the 14'r completely eclipses it in ability and versatility. You can pack quite a bit more in the 14'r, it's got a more robust suspension, including a very...
I'm liking the looks of this new pack as well. I've never been a fan of side water bottle pockets but I do like a pocket on the outside that I can get in and out of without going through a zipper. Looks like there might be a slip pocket just behind the expanding pocket as well.
To answer your posted questions better, INFI performs a lot like D2 in edge retention. A couple of years ago I skinned and butchers and entire longhorn steer that weighed around 2000lbs without sharpening the knife until I was done. I did notice that compared to an elk, the hide did come off...
I've always liked D2 and have had several Benchmade knives in it that have really served me well. Knives of Alaska really does D2 well. I now use a Busse Meanstreet for skinning and the INFI is phenomenal. I've since quit shopping for the perfect knife. I've used a lot of S30V, A2, O1 and...
In my opinion, and contrary to what a few others have said, it will handle a good bit of weight with comfort. I've had 60+ pounds in mine and it felt great. The drawback is, the main compartment lacks circumference. It is a tall pack. Although it will handle weight well, I will probably end...
I always condition my boots regardless of warranties. The only boot care products that have been known to damage leather are fat oils such as mink oil. I always let a couple of applications of Obenauf's Leather Oil to penetrate over several hours and then use the Obenauf's Heavy Duty LP as a...
If that pack were still available and US made today, it would be one of my first choices. It's on the X frame which has some hauling abilities and the capacity and built in beaver tail are a good setup in my opinion. I don't think the pack would be overkill for any kind of hunting/backpacking...
120 seconds, huh? That's plenty of time for me!
Seriously though, I don't have the sewing machine for 2 layers of webbing and 92 thread, much less a bartack machine which runs over $1000 broken, and I'm not good enough with my needle and thimble to sew one up to my liking in a couple of minutes...
I think the whole red meat being bad fad is an idea from the 70's and 80's where it was believed cholesterol ingested was cholesterol attained. Medical and dietary science has definitely evolved.
