I've used them both multiple times as carry on's. No issues...But then again, I 've used a T1, a EMR2, a Mountain Warrior, an Argali as a carry on with no issues what so ever either. Just don't fill the pack up and you will be fine. I've found just about anything goes as long as it is somewhat compressed.

I've used the 14'r several times. The first time it was completely stuffed. No problems for the overhead bin, but a little long for under the seat. I still get away with it often though.
