SRS brake - 7mm vs .30 hole matter for 7mm?

Good morning, I'm planning to purchase a brake for my Tikka 7 RM and have been looking at the SRS brake for minimal muzzle rise (spotting shots) & recoil. I also have .30 cal guns, but my 7 RM is what I'm trying to outfit. Think there's a noticeable amount of muzzle rise or recoil if I get the...

Optics from scratch for Montana hunting for a newbie

Correct, I'm trying to become a well skilled ethical hunter this year. I'm fairly new to shooting beyond 200 yards. I got a Tikka 223 this spring with SWFA 3-15 and have been shooting steel to 600 yards, about 200 rounds per month. Once I feel more comfortable at 600, the range has out to 1200...

Optics from scratch for Montana hunting for a newbie

I'm hopeful for this fall to not eat tag soup after the last 5 years chasing elk in MT. I've gradually and slowly grown my elk hunting knowledge since growing up hunting in thick timber in the midwest. My cheap binos, spotter, and potentially rangefinder are all getting upgraded. Last year after...

    0 MOA or 20 MOA mount with Maven RS1 / Tikka 6.5

I have a 20 MOA base on my Tikka 223 and 7 mag. I don't think there's really a downside. If you get your scope mounted properly, a decent bipod, and a good rear rest, you'll hit steel at 400 with your Tikka all day long before you know it.

    90$ Chinese Binoculars seriously impressive

My $200 Nikon ProStaff 7s 10x42 are great glass in perfect light conditions, when looking for short periods of time. If I was watching birds off the balcony for a minute, that's all I would need. But I've finally accepted the fact for hunting, they're a paper weight.

    18x binos or BTX spotter

I'm looking to get some bigger glass for hunting in Western Montana. Currently testing the Maven 18x and have a vortex razor hd 16-48x spotter. It definitely gives me eye fatigue in within minutes. Is it worth skipping the 18x and getting the Swaro BTX spotter? So I can glass longer distance...

    Reviving an FN Mauser .06

Hello everyone, I'm looking to bring back to life a hand me down FN Mauser 30.06. It says Modelo 1935 on the side, and after some quick research online, it should like this action could be Belgian from 1935-40ish? The action and stock aren't new but I would not have guessed they were that old...

    Chrono or Kestrel

What's a better investment for developing a good dope chart to 800? Want to be able to be hunt ethically with all of them is the real goal. Or can I see which ammo the gun shoots decent groups at 100, use the factory velocity and BC, get close with a couple shots at 500, dial the scope in to...

    Release agent testing

Thanks. My local store had a different brand of natural shoe polish so wanted to do an experiment. Bedding the base and action on my 10/22 to get the rookie mistakes out of the way before my Tikkas.

I took a 10% paycut to move out west 6 years ago. I wouldn't move back to an area I didn't like for a 300% raise. I'm not exaggerating. Apply for jobs that interest you and pay "enough for your family" (define that), and live your dream. It doesn't take $100000000

    Release agent testing

I was curious about an effective release agent for bedding my scope rail. And in the future for bedding my action. Test: Original JB weld a penny to wood or vinyl (LVP flooring) Release agents tested: -Black shoe cream - Leather dressing (Both similar to Johnson paste wax?) - olive oil...

    Best scope around $450??

+1 for SWFA 3-15. I think the 15x is helpful for 400 yards at my range. I can hit 8" steel regularly at 650 yd with my 3-15 on my Tikka 223. To my eyes, it's a good zoom to spot shots at 600-800. If you haven't, lookup the scope tests here on Rokslide. They're.... eye opening...

    Swaro 10x/12x or Maven 10x/12X & 18X?

I'm pretty confident this test is not the end all. But in a sporting good store over the weekend I tested swaro NL vs vortex HD and UHD. I had clearer vision of the vortex HD at 100 yards stack of paper than the NL. I need to test them at a mile outdoors, but the Swaro were noticeably less clear...

    Swaro 10x/12x or Maven 10x/12X & 18X?

Good evening Roksliders, I've looking to graduate from my $200 10x binos. I got a Vortex UHD spotter last fall and saw 100X the elk of previous seasons, probably 500x honestly. My eyes get fatigued glassing for long periods of time and the cheap 10X don't have the clarity and/or zoom that I'd...
