Same here. After hunting it pretty hard this year and shooting it along with a few other VG and classic stocks the last couple of weeks, I really like it as an offhand/upright grip as is. The only time I wish it was a closer/more closed VG is when prone. Everything's a trade off.
Unless you need the weight savings (24.5 oz vs 20.5 oz), the compact size, or the ability to drive nails, the RS 1.2 2.5-15 beats the NXS out in my experience. I only use 1 RS 1.2 (and it's been for a limited time) but I use a lot of the NXS 2.5-10's. Aside from the 3 things I mentioned, the NXS...
I used a MR Popup 28 for several years. I worked well.
This year I used an XOP Retrograde as a hybrid platform/stand with the saddle. It works great as a pack frame with a LW belt and shoulder straps. I strapped a Badlands Monster fanny pack to the shelf to hold "stuff"/saddle/etc, and used an...
I'm curious about the reliability of the Maven RS.2 2-10x38, mainly in regard to maintaining zero. It's not in what I consider the "long range" category because of the reticle and lack of elevation dial, but along the same lines as the SWFA 2.5-10x32, a lightweight set and forget. On some...
I've begun to think personal check is the best route...if cash isn't an option. Recently mailed a bank check with tracking. It was lost in the USPS vortex with no tracking for a long while. It's a much more involved process to have a bank check cancelled than it is to have a personal check...
I've been using mine hard the last month. The vast majority of the time it's set on 6x...but I have used 4x a few times and 8x a fair bit at last light....but really, it lives on 6x. I'd like to see the same glass, reticle, build quality, dial, and setup in a 6x. I would be fine without illum...
Checking before I order. Looking the DNZ Game Reaper 2, 30mm, low, 4 screw top, for a Rem 700. I believe the SKU is 703TL2. Same as below:
https://www.amazon.com/Game-Reaper-Mossberg-Weatherby-Remington/dp/B083GGKF2Z
Used/external scratched is fine as long as they haven't been lapped. If...
Nice. Will be interesting to see which rounds they will make it available for...or if they'll make even make note of that...the 350 Legend is an odd duck. Hopefully they'll make them cartridge specific and allow a bit of room to play with seating instead of spacing the freedom out of the mag box.
I've been using the scope heavily the last month hunting. ~75% woods, ~25% ag fields. I never run it on 2.5x...so I can't comment on that power...but consistently use it at 4x-6x in wooded mountainsides. The east side of a mountain, in woods, on a cloudy day, 30 min after sunset is pretty dark...
I believe the PH2's action footprint is the same as a 700's.
However...from memory, need to look tonight...the Seekins bottom metal inlet is different from a standard M5. The short action AICS bottom metal Seekins makes has a spacer so the same bottom metal can be used with short action AICS...
RSS6.X - Fixed Six, SHR-Mil, exp. elevation, side focus, $500, < 17 oz.
RSS3.9 - 3-9x40ish, FFP, SHR-Mil, exp. elev., fixed parallax, $700, < 20 oz.
Those two, along with the RS1.2 2.5-15, would cover most everything for me. I'd probably prefer the fixed 6 have fixed parallax unless I was using...
None of these are things to hate, but are my "not favorite" things about the Element:
I like the pattern/footprint of the stock on the Element, but it's not a light stock.
Wish the stock had off side flush cups rather than just the underside.
The integrated rail in the level can't be seen...
The vertical grip mini stock would be a great option for the NULA/Forbes/Fieldcraft lines as well as Kimber. Having ADL/blind mag config, with a slim rounded under mag design, would be nice for the lighter rifles carried in hand.
After using the VG in a lot of hunting over the last month, it's a pretty good stock. The trigger reach is a little long but it's not bad. I do choke up a bit for it. In colder weather I usually wear a thin wool glove with a thick glomitt over it. The thick palm on the glomitt cuts the reach...
That. After doing that, then it can be fine tuned with movement of the head...but it's going to be really close after what blkqi mentioned.
I think NF put a lot of "stuff" into a really short/compact scope with NXS 2.5-10x42. The 2.5-10x42's parallax setting will vary across power setting...
