thought you focused on B zone?

have the pigs made a come back at LS yet? Lol
Guiding A zone black tail, but i hunt B zone after.
Saw 4 pigs at the lake Sat. morning and one yesterday.
The whole area is slow, Ive talked to other landowners, clubs and wardens and it the same from south of Booneville. Most likely a virus

Mx congrats on the A zone archery success! Love the photo.

Meat- no offense but anywhere near a road on public land on opening day means you didnt do your homework. Your rant on the guy who screwed up your hunt probably packed out a nice little forky after sticking him over his water hole..

No offense taken but I’m going to tell you this, he didn’t kill shit, I saw him leave and the cameras didn’t show a small forkie on that water hole either.
Also I scouted every fuckin weekend from first weekend of may until Father’s Day when my daughter was born. Set cameras, checked them and moved them from water source to water source as they dried up or didn’t show good bucks. Hiked and glassed new areas and did trail maintenance in regular spots. Had three bucks using water source at roadside because believe it or not that’s where the water is and they don’t give a shit because they need it to survive so they get it at night and feed back to bed at daybreak. They used the same hillside and travel routes last year too. I saw them with my own eyes in the same exact spot several times now. I do my homework so don’t troll me with your bullshit.
And to top it off for you I saw the guy on my camera again yesterday walking out empty handed at 10am, (you defend a guy who leaves at 10am) In the spot the three bucks I had patterned were living... until he started walking through there on opening day.
I also have (11 of my own) back up bucks to chase including two good ones but having the newborn at home, I had set my sights on these easy to access deer.
Passed a bloody hard horned three point this morning as well as on Monday morning when he was still full velvet. He’s lives on top of the hill across canyon from the three bucks I was chasing. He’s been there each time I’ve scouted this season as well. There’s no good approach to him with the winds we have had on the three days that I’ve been out hunting so far and even with good wind, it’s so brushy and loud that I decided to leave him alone in hopes that he sticks around for my son to kill with his rifle. This being his first year big game hunting and all I don’t really need to kill one, I can do it vicariously through him.

Also because some of the quality folks here know I have my shit together and a newborn at home they put me on the public land bucks that they scouted but aren’t able to hunt due to their own growing family.

Lastly how has your A zone scouting and archery hunting gone this year?

Meat, first of all congrats on your newborn. Second, i know this is just a hunting forum but your posts come across as angry to me. I was simply stating the obvious that hunting near any road on opening day will be a zoo. I was not defending your competition. As for your question, I have had a great season so far. Snuck up to 17 yards yesterday of a bedded forkie but he wasnt the buck for my tag. Good luck to all the archery A zoners and sorry to the OP for side tracking your thread.

Angry? That’s one way to put it haha. Good luck this season in Azone, first year in many I do not have a public land A zone hunt due to other tags in the state. Glad to read there are still a few guys not killing the first 2 year old forkie they see.

Thanks.

No you simply stated that I did not do my homework. I simply told you what you did not know.

No one but me had parked at this gate while I’ve been up there From may until opening day. Maybe he scouted the two weekends I missed but cameras didn’t see anybody either.

Anyways I’ll be back up Saturday morning to try some of the other bucks that hopefully haven’t been frigged up by anyone else. There’s plenty of time and plenty of deer around. Just not as easy to access.

In the past I have killed or passed several bucks either from the roadside or that I could have killed from the roadside with a rifle, at or near heavily hunted areas and trailheads. The bucks are where you find them, but gambling on them being there opening morning often goes as it did for me. It’s part of it and I’m entitled to share my frustration on the situation. As I’m sure the frustration has been shared by several other public land hunters.

I may bitch about things I cannot control but I fill my tags regardless. My “rants” are largely about common curtesy on public land or poor game management practices. I put them here on the forums so novice individuals (and jackasses alike) will hopefully read them and try not to be the guy who does the things I’m bitching about. Or in hopes that wildlife officials will read and consider making changes based on reading how poor management has impacted the individual hunter. Most guys read it like oh he’s bitching cuz he didn’t kill anything but in reality I’m bitching because somebody is doing something they shouldn’t. Just know that I’m still killing game regardless.

Like I said, that’s public land for ya. Good luck guys and gals.

Today I was the guy leaving at 10am... Hmongs decided to walk back into the area I was in and proceeded to unload 5.56 3030 9mm and 40cal Starting at 9am. I avoided them but picked up a handful of brass off the dirt road there on my way out and didn’t even phase the f’n mess they had left. Apparently it’s not the first time they’ve done it as there’s brass everywhere in there. Blm ground. Thought plinking was a no no on blm. Especially in a hunting area during archery season.
Still I saw two small bucks before the firing range opened.

Was out this morning, Still hunting in a small bowl near a creek bed with some deer beds nearby in the grass and lots of turkey sign. Saw a single buck on the edges of a little clearing maybe 800 yards away down an embankment, across the creek and through some berry and poison oak. As I was planning how to get there I hear something coming down the creekbed, rocks moving around. Set myself back to the embankment, draw and point at where I think the nearest exit point would be. I see eyes. 5 coyotes come out of the creek bed, nearest is within 15 yards. I let down, a pup yelps and they blow out of there, fast, from the sound of it taking everything in the bowl with them. Hunt over.

It was my first ever archery hunt; enjoyed it, wasn't a success, but I wouldnt consider a complete failure either.

Nice work on the coyote. If I had a dollar for every time a coyote has blown an A zone stalk for me id probably have several dollars. 😂

My old lady had just shot a nice 4x last year in Bzone and we were trying to get a follow up shot as it was hanging a leg but still up. A fuckin yote rolls right in and chases the buck off into the timber. We never saw em again. Went in next am to look for blood and found like 8 little droplets of blood and nothing else. Hope he made it on three legs to this season, he was a nice one.
Watched a doe try to stomp two yotes in June while scouting. They came within 5-10 yards of the fawns and started to chase and mom bounded I’m ready to bash skulls. Was funny. Watched it with my son, he’s never seen anything like that before and thought it was cool. Dogs tucked tail and ran after about 15 second chase by doe.

Here’s buck that shed velvet Thursday. I Walked way the hell up the hill in the dark past the spot id been sitting and bitching about boot tracks all week. Glass back down and he’s about to stroll right by my brush blind. Within 100 yards or less. Feeding right towards it so I Bomb back down thinking if I can beat him to the saddle I’ve got a shot. I scraped down there and snuck into blind, sweaty as hell and huffing, I wait about 15 min until he cuts right out of brush walks up and crosses dirt road heading opposite direction of me. 120 was as close as I came. I set blind there because it’s closest I can get without exposing myself to the deer. He was on an opposite pattern of the theee bucks I was after all week. They feed downhill from right to left on dirt road edge to saddle I set up in but this guy who lives opposite hilltop was strolling through there like he owned the joint. Still haven’t put eyes on my target bucks this season. Hoping he stays around for my son to take. Seen him5 times now. This is first time he wasn’t within 100yds of his spot on hilltop.

As an A zone rookie I got out for the first time with my bow for opening weekend in northern A. Didn't see any bucks, but got within 80 yards of a 6 point tule elk bull, saw 8 does, and got bit by approximately 1000 ticks. Fun weekend and I'll be back for more before the archery season is done. Good luck to everyone else for the last few weeks before the guns come out >.<

Got into the ticks Saturday myself.

I’ve been having troubles with noseeums the past couple years. Dozens of bites from sock to boxer. Itchy as hell.
What’s the remedy for preventing these things from going up my pant legs?
