None of my Colorado pics are camping pics unfortunately. My wife can get away from work for a week but needs to be available to put out fires. Cell service is spotty enough in the towns of CO so no tent camping on BLM land.:( It is on the radar though.

My uncle lives in Salida so we spent 4 days there and went to the dunes and black canyon and hung out in town. Then up to Brighton to do the zoo and RMNP.

Colorado is a great state but their politics are messed up.

Kids get leap frog (sort of ipadish but educational) for 30 minutes if their room is clean.
Last time kid had screen time was probably over a month ago...

I try the "if you clean your room you can play on your ipad"...just looks at me with the nope eyes and says im going to play outside or play with legos. I will take messy room and no screens all day long.

The biggest problem is their friends...when I go over to someones house and don't hear the kids running around and playing...they are usually plugged into a TV some place. That is super irritating.

Everytime I see my kids doing that damn dance I just shake my head. We don't have the game, but its like everyone including some adults seem to know what dance to do and how to do it. I told my oldest he looks like the blowup things at used car dealerships...the dance is banned in the kitchen at our house.

This thread is awesome. I subbed in a middle school some last year and some teachers made talking about fortnight an automatic detention. After one day I realized why.

Can’t wait to have kids of my own one day and take them on adventures like y’all are. Keep up the good work.

Video games annoy the crap outta me! Even when it’s someone else’s kid playing them all the time. I keep them away from my kids as much as possible.

We went out and trolled around the lakes for trout this weekend in my Kaboat. Most of the Alaska fishing is not ideal for a 4 year old but this is perfect.

Took him snagging red salmon in Seward, I have to pull the line towards the reel to help him get them in, but he was all wound up and that’s what it’s all about.

I have yet to be begin to procrastinate.

Man, school’s only been out a week and my son’s attempting to break the world record for most time on fortnight. So I finally gathered up him and a couple of his friends and loaded up the truck and headed to the hills (out of Wi-Fi range) pulled out the wall tent and said “get it set up.”

Within five minutes they were acting like they could care less about screens. Highly recommended you get the kids to the hills this summer. #fortnightsucks

It can no doubt be tough to limit kids screen time. It all starts with letting them play "educational" games on the tablet and then goes from there. It's a battle I have fought for the last few years. I think it really got bad when my wife became a single parent for nearly a year while I did my duty for Uncle Sam. I do not blame her at all, because I know how easy it is to hand the kid the phone or Ipad so you can have 15 minutes of peace and be able to actually get something done.

But, as the kids are getting older, they are finding much more joy in activities that don't require electronics. We camp at least once a month from March-October. No electronics allowed except cell phones for directions and phone calls. Two years ago my oldest daughter said she wanted to visit every state park in our home state of NC. So that has been something we really focus on during school breaks.

My youngest daughter loves to trout fish. So we do that as much as possible as well. Neither kid is into hunting, yet, but if they ever do get interested, I am ready to take them.

There has to be more members on here with kids and their adventures. Can’t let this thread drift away yet.

My boy got to catch his first king salmon this morning! He tried reeling one in when he was 2 but we lost it. I have to pull the line towards the reel for him but we pulled it off, it was pretty neat.

He yelled out as he was reeling “He’s huge, we are gonna need everyone’s help” hahaha
