Question for Zoleo users in the backcountry, does your cell phone have to always be on in order to be able to do location share with wife at home? This eats up my phone battery in a one day test.
I just bought one but are having second thoughts about it?

I really like mine, however don’t think I’ve tested it in that way. I think you can preset messages/ location to send without having your phone on. I would send them an email, their CS seems to be pretty responsive and good to work with

I've never had my phone fully off with it, just airplane mode so no bluetooth connection to the zoleo but it worked for the location share. My wife used the zoleo app as well and it worked great this year.

Thanks for the replies, I will try again this week off.

Question #2? Can she use/see Location/share+ on a PC?

If you have it set up in your account to location share on check-ins, you can hit the check mark button and it will share your location without your phone needing to be connected.

She can see it on a PC if you have it set up in your account to send to her email.

I have my account setup so that when I hit the check mark button, it sends a check in message and my exact location to my wife's phone and email.

Al the above has to be set up in your online zoleo account, not in the zoleo app on your phone.

Try airplane mode. The worst thing for my phone is using any map app when not in airplane mode. Regardless of if I have signal or not my phone is trying to use towers to help location accuracy. Doesn’t matter if I’m using downloaded maps either. I’ve been very happy with my Zoleo except when I completely drained the battery it stopped pairing with my phone until I did a soft reset.

You can set-up how often you share location (or drop bread crumbs) for someone to see (follow you) - and that prob saves some battery.

Even if you figure out how to lessen phone battery drain - it will prob still drain ZOLEO to do what you want it to do.

Years ago I used my Garmin watch for this same bread crumb follow feature. Only did that once. So maybe if you have a Garmin watch, that could be an option too that frees up phone/ZOLEO for other options you want it for. Garmin watch has to sync with satellites so I don’t think the breadcrumb feature ate more watch battery.

To add, if you’re wanting to leave your zoleo on to do the breadcrumb/location share you can set intervals for it. The battery should last about 3-4 days if never turning it off.

I use mine selectively and I can go at least 18 days sharing my location 3 times a day and sending several messages.

The only time I pair my phone is to check the weather or send a message that isn’t a check in/share location.
