ZeroTech TRACE ADV 3-18×44 FFP Shoot2Hunt

To my eyes, SWFA glass is crap, even the HD. I tried to like it, and just couldn't get past it.
I don't LOVE it by any means but for the price on a reliable scope the 6x and 3-9 are solid enough. I find the glass quality worse when trying to shoot tiny groups on paper versus steel, etc.

The key factor is cost and reliability. IE most ~$300 scopes aren't GREAT glass so that need to be kept in mind. Also scopes with great glass that aren't reliable are a non-starter. So in the past you had to decide if you wanted to spend SWFA dollars on the fixed series / 3-9 and accept the average quality glass that won't keep you from killing but isn't as pleasing or spend alot more money for the few scopes that were good glass and reliable.

This new S2H scope supposedly is a nice glass option that is reliable, it must be acknowledged it is still more expensive that SWFA fixed series / 3-9 but its not as expensive as some other options. The LRTS/LRHS type scopes hit this budget point in the past.

The cost of the ZT scope could sell for much more IMO. The price it’s selling for is wild.

Crazy how glass doesn't matter to lots of you, but once you look and use a scope with good glass, that is the main thing that impressed you.

SWFA's work, no doubt, but their optical quality is trash in my opinion. I'd much rather spend more $ to get better glass.
Its a balancing act. If MOST scopes were reliably then glass would matter more, good glass is meaningless if not reliable (something some people seem to ignore). Yes there is the option to spend more money, that is where a user's situation and budget/preferences comes into mind. The scope of this thread is supposedly one more option with better glass quality, which is nice and there is excitement for it.

There would probably be less excitement if it was $2500. Nothing is in the absence of context.

If it was $2500, it wouldn’t even be on my radar.

Crazy how when shooters actually use things, they see that a $300 SWFA makes aiming in low light substantially easier than $2,500 Nightforce’s, ZCO’s, Vortex LHT’s, etc, etc…

Reticles matter.

Yes indeed.

And- the glass isn’t THE difference maker. All else being equal- durability, reliability, reticle, etc; no one wants better glass than I do. But it is a nice to have, not a need to have. And, people fool themselves about the difference between decent scopes. Several people used the 4-20x ZCO and 6x SWFA Gen 2 and couldn’t see the difference in glass when on 6x.

I've never looked through a ZCO, but my god their glass must be rough to not be able to tell a difference between that and a SWFA. I always thought they were high regarded.

I still have a couple LRHS riflescopes on my most-used rifles and owned a 3-9 HD SWFA for awhile. I couldn't tell any glass quality difference between the SWFA and the LRHS personally. I preferred the reticle and lighter weight on the SWFA. I preferred the 4x magnification range with more top end, the shorter 10 MIL/rev turrets, capped windage turret, zero stop, parallax adjustment, and non-overly stick mag ring on the LRHS, so I stuck with the LRHS for those reasons.

I'm glad to see all those same features in the S2H scope with an even better reticle, supposedly better zero retention, and a 6x erector. The S2H scope should sell like hot-cakes and be a no-brainer at $1,000. The drawbacks on the Maven and $500 price difference kept me from switching to those, but I see myself replacing all my LRHS scopes to the S2H for the $200 price difference if the production units work as expected.

I grabbed one scope in the first pre-order, but I'm still gunshy from being a LE Green opening day Rokstok order.

You're gonna learn quickdrop and wind brackets then all your moa scopes will be on the classifieds...
I already know it, when the Maven came out I was committed to the switch and they canceled my order 3x because I purchased with a military discount and they sold to full price buyers first, so I gave up. My rangefinder does solutions anyways.

We were all MOA guys our whole lives until we made the switch. MIL truly is the better system for shooting under stress if you give it a chance.
I hope it's all the rave!

FFS … I was sitting in a teleconference and figured I would see how many of these had sold. Somehow another one ended up in my shopping cart… damned things are better at killing my wallet than anything else. But that’s a problem for future me.
Future me just put a deposit on one today too. Should have grabbed the scope bumper with it though. Oh well.
