I need to buy 2 scopes for two Ruger American short in 8mm-09.

I dont want to spend a ton of money because its for 8 and 10 year olds. They will probably get beat up a bit, BUT should be durable enough to last the next 10 yrs.

Also a turret or BDC would be nice as they evolve and end up in the back country.

Thanks for any help...

Sightron STac. They make a 2-10 or the 3-16. Super tough scopes. I have a few, and prefer them over the vx3.

I went with a VX-2 Ultralight 3-9x33 CDS on my son's .243 and it has been working great for him. He shoots steel with it to about 800 yards and killed his first deer with it last year at 525 yards.

Budget $?.. Im hoping to stay $250 ish range for each.

I would like to go with something higher quality that they could then transfer to their next rifle as they grew into a young adult. But the other side of me says that it's going to get beat up and dragged around and that they would then put a different scope on their new rifle as they grow older.

So I guess my decision now is to just get a decent scope that's going to last them on this short youth version for the next eight to 10 years.

I still have scopes that I bought 15-17 years ago. Buy quality optics. Put flip caps on the glass.

$250'ish for each and you want durability and the ability to dial?

SWFA SS 6x42mm with milquad reticle. Literally the only scope I would consider for your stated wants.
