Close encounters are cool, and I have some good ones, but that's not what THIS thread is about.
My farthest was last year I shot a cow elk at 500 yards, but then on Monday I went out and shot a cow at 545 yards. First shot, center punched the lungs. I knew she was hit good as she only took a couple of steps, had her head down, and didn't bunch up with the rest of the herd. But she was still standing, so I hurried and sent a follow-up shot. I should have skipped on the "hurry" part and taken a little more time. Second shot was a little high and back but it hit spine and put her down.
Overall, I feel good about the outcome, but there's always room for improvement. I do get really excited when it comes time to pull the trigger, so it was great practice calming down, controlling my breathing and making the shot.
