Guys,

Lets see those heavily used, well worn hunting rifles that have accounted for years of memories!

I wish I had a picture of my uncles Remington 760. The receiver had his wrapped-around handprint very clearly worn into the bluing. My grandfathers Winchester 94 (now in my possession) and my personal Browning Citori aren’t too far behind.

This pushfeed 300WM M70 was traded for in ‘98, got the Manners stock in 2013, and a new barrel in ‘14 I believe. The barrel was completely shot out to the tune of more 4,000 rounds. It was over a 2 MOA, 3 shot group rifle by the time of barrel replacement. A significant portion or those rounds were on animals. Hundreds of game animals from me alone. Haven’t used it much since fall of 2014.

Tikka M595. Started life as a 22-250, then 243 win, then 308, now a 6XC. It has been shot a lot and used very heavily, and has been used to kill a bit more than 40 game animals. It been hunted more the last two years- 8 elk and a deer last year, and 4 elk and a deer this year.

Got an old 70’s-80’s Winchester model 670 30/06 bolt that looks like it’s been used as an axe! Previous owner killed 30 antler racks with it before he gave it to me. Gonna get a new scope on er and show some pics.

@Formidilosus 223 Remington for elk. Need more people like you!!! 👶🏼🔫🦌💣

View attachment 527388, a worn cerakote job would really complete this rifle…

I love well worn and used rifles. Too many guys pay for ridiculous “worn” cerakote jobs rather than actually go out and use their stuff. This is the real deal.

As an aside, this thread reminds me of a story of a sheep farmer in Alberta who used the same .22-250 every day for years, killing ~3 coyotes a day for years with it. He bought it at a yard sale with a 3-9 Leupy duplex on it, without knowing a thing about barrel life, ballistics etc. He ended up attending a Rob Furlong course up here (Canadian sniper who broke first world record back in 2002), and proceeded to crush everyone in the class with that combo out to distance, despite being advised by the cadre initially to not use the rifle and offered a Cadex loaner instead. He refused and carried on on the course, and it became apparent quickly that he had memorized exactly where to hold on the duplex for each target distance despite having no reference point on the reticle. On top of that, the instructors were not sure how the barrel lasted for so long, as they estimated it had 2-3x the expected barrel life round count on it.

Now, I wish I could gift that farmer a Tikka .223 and SWFA 6x, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s still cruising around rural Alberta with that same rifle in his passenger seat.

I don’t have any pictures and will have to dig it out one day but my old maverick 88. Not a rifle but that shotgun saw a lot of miles and killed a lot of ducks. It was a sad day when it quit working. Best 189.99 I ever spent.

Not mine (unfortunately) but belongs to a very good friend in Wyoming, he's in his mid 70s now. His grandaddy bought a matching pair in .30 Gov (.30-03) & .30-40 brand new in ????. Every generation since has carried them while guiding hunters, fishermen, rescuing lost climbers, hunting down cattle rustlers & who knows what else! Vance still uses the Krag on the one day a year he may venture into the mountains. God only knows how many muleys, elk & other critters it's accounted for. His son uses it, on occasion, when he's down from Alaska. Unfortunately the .30-03 has major headspace problems now & probably isn't safe to shoot. The Krag, however, will still empty its mag into a 3" ring at 100yds, all day.

EDIT: I'm not sure why i thought 1896. The .30gov obviously wasn't around until 1903. Duh.....

I just got a custom Mauser from the smith and it’s gorgeous……but I can’t wait to get some bumps and bruises on it! There are to many rifles built for Instagram now a days. I miss those old school beaters that just got it done.

This was my Granddad’s 1965 model 70 in .270 he bought new. It was handed down to my Dad and then to me. Complete with the Bushnell 4x scope they bought him for Christmas one year. It’s killed it’s fair share of deer and quite a few trees. Granddad got buck fever pretty good. He use to tell me story’s about stopping the school bus to look at deer because there just weren’t any around, so when he was finally able to get a deer tag it was a pretty special thing.B627AB98-03DF-456C-AA3C-248034AE6B2F.jpeg64383432-3754-44E6-9DDE-AF642BB205C2.jpeg
