My book of lessons learned while 60 years of hunting whitetails, might be good reads but nothing beats personal experience, and yes, I spend every moment I can in the woods even during off season studying and watching those awesome woodland creatures. Never bought into someone's Elses thoughts, experiences or whatever they say, it's always different everyday you hunt, and I have killed a bunch of them in different situations and environments. Besides if I sit home and read a book about someone Elses adventures I am wasting time I could be having my own adventures.

Lou, it was a sarcastic remark and I stand by my reply. no AMAZON where I tread chasing deer. 😉 You learn from experience something no number of books will teach you in white tail hunting. But I will give you one thing to think about, imagine the deer hunting you in your living room, there's your first lesson.

I have a couple from NAHC that have some classic stories:
- Guides' Tales of Adventure
- North American Hunting Adventures

Pursuing Public Land Bucks: DIY Hunts by Todd Mead was a good quick easy read with photos of the bucks killed from the stories he tells within it. Also emailed him some questions and he got back to me which was cool.

Precision Bowhunting by Eberhart is okay. Cool to see his mounts at Jays in Clare so his system works for him but I don't buy into a lot of his scent stuff

Based on these replies ordered a couple Benoit books off ebay

Has anyone read and care to review:
Hunting Big Woods Bucks: Secrets of Tracking and Stalking Whitetails?
Yep. If youve read the Benoit books theres not a ton new, just a different perspective. Its an easy read, goes fast, mostly stressing fundamentals with some juicy tidbits about deer habits and quirks. its lesson followed by recounting a hunt, repeat. All worthwhile especially if you hunt, or plan to hunt, in big woods setting, but not the most gripping read if its literature you’re after. Most folks will learn something.

Thanks!
If you had to choose just one book of the three…

Well, they arent $$$. But if thats the challenge read them all, just not all at once. Read in chronological order…original benoit, later benoit, then hal blood.

Really like this book. The guy did basically a study on deer on his own place in western NY. Some of his moon phase theories might be out there but it’s helped me have some success in the woods.

Besides from the Benoit and Hal blood books,
Not so much deer hunting, but interesting. Walter Arnold : Maine Trapper - Stories from one of the last mountain men.

Guy who lived off the land through rough Maine winters running remote shacks and traplines.

Picked up a copy of Michael Perry’s book, “Deer Hunting Secrets To Taking Mature Bucks On Public Land” at the Mobile Expo . Good buck!
