You guys know anything about wisteria plants?

I planted a bunch of wisteria that I sprouted from seed a couple weeks ago. Some of them are growing great but look like shit, others aren't growing at all but look healthy. To much water? To little water? Does full sun Eff them up?

Mine prefer sandy soil, and just a little shade.
Dogs ate one down to the root, and it came back strong. It’s already put 4’ of growth since the spring green-up.

How big are they? Once they get past a few inches, they need to have something to climb on for support

Planted em along a barb wire fence with hopes of having a natural privacy fence.

Are yall planting Japanese Wisteria, or a native variety? Like you actually want it in your yard?

I spend hours and hours and hours each year fighting Japanese Wisteria in by back yard. It has taken over the ditch that runs along my back yard. It has taken over and killed nearly every tree back there. It has sent runners in every direction under the soil in my yard. I've seen it do similar things all over the place here in south east VA, as well as other places. Only thing worse is Kudzu (steps down off soapbox)

They are gorgeous when they bloom.

@Sapcut I am interested in that jelly recipe - maybe I can turn my disdain into something productive.

As to sprouting. once they start scattering seeds theyll sprout on their own about this time of year. Seeds wont need to be buried, will sprout sitting on top of the soil.

Im not sure what variety my mother plant is but it's 4-5 years old and has gone buck wild.

In all seriousness (really, im done being a smartass) I think your transplanted seedlings will do fine in the long run. the stuff in my backyard is growing in a ditch that holds water, but very well drained sandy soil. also a fair amount of shade where the plants are starting and taking root.

Unsure how much water they like, but we have basically had a drought here (VA version of a drought) and seedlings were popping up all over the place. Then a week of rain, and still getting seedlings popping up. So i dont know if they like to stay moist or not. If you have a way to keep them shaded may help them along.

If you planted the Chinese version, I would run away, fast. Once it takes hold, plan on heavy, yearly pruning. I finally dug ours out, needed the backhoe.
