I live in Colorado, grew up on the east coast and that’s the magnification we always used.
I am sorry. I got confused by a prior post and thought you were hunting in the East Coast mountains. Sometimes, I get brain farts.
Good luck with your choice.
Btw - I have an X-bolt Mountain Pro (carbon stock + skinny 24" steel threaded barrel. Bare, it is just over 6 lbs. I love the action. It is easily as slick and reliable as my Tikkas. I also love that the magazine is flush to the stock b/c that area is where I like to carry my rifle from. The stock fits me fine. The new stock the X Bolt 2 has looks aewsome.
I was concerned the crazy metric browning threading would be a problem. I simply bought a direct thread mount for my Evo can. It works great with no adapters needed.
I was concerned that the skinny barrel wouldn't be accurate, particularly with a 12-14 oz can on the end. Despite the low weight of the rifle, the skinny barrel, 6.8W recoil, and weight of the can, it is a sub-moa gun for three shots. It really loves the can.
What would I change, I would have ordered the 20" version. I think you'll like the 308 at 18".
