Hi all,

I moved to Laramie last August so I'll be a resident this archery season.
I am planning two weekend scouting trips in August over in the Wyoming range and wanted to see if anyone had some insights.
I will be archery hunting September 1-12, I'm in solid mountain shape and am looking to pack in 1-8 miles depending on where I find deer.

Does anyone have any tips on heavily pressured areas to avoid or what types of terrain to focus on?
I'm just trying to reduce the odds of a 7-8 hour drive not turning up deer.
I've already done a lot of e-scouting and found places to check out but have no idea what they'll be like come hunting season.

Thanks!

Feel free to ask my any questions you have. I won't necessarily tell you where to go or not where to go but you can bounce ideas off of me. I will say though this year is dryer up high as in years past and I am seeing higher densities of deer lower then in the past. (Just my observation)

The bear comment is something to take note of. They had a grizzly spotted down by Kemmerer this spring and last year there was one down by Cokeville area so its time to start paying more attention to that out there. It is really dry this year areas where I am hiking right now that usually still have snow do not.

Just pick a basin and go for it. They are all overrun anymore with loads of hunter orange the first week of the season and on weekends. There is just too much hunting pressure by residents anymore and the elk population is 35+% over objective so you’ll see plenty of elk and hunter orange in every basin. It’s very dry this year so have back up plans for water sources as many of the sources are not viable this year. There is virtually no place anymore in G or the Wyoming Range to get away from the crowds just adapt your techniques and hunt smarter than the half dozen camps in every basin.

Thanks Packin_packout, it's so wet it Laramie I was curious what the moisture would be like over there.

I didn't realize grizzlies were a concern out there, I'll definitely switch up my food storage this weekend.

highfastflyer, I'm planning on archery hunting September 1-12 so hopefully I will not be surrounded by hunter orange.
