Wyoming unit 26 when to hunt?

I’ve hunted unit 26 for 4 yrs now , on public ground usually on opening day or the next day and have always filled our tags in 2 days, this year I might have to wait for 6 days before we can get there and was wondering how going that late will effect our hunting?

In Unit 26, the first week pressure pushes deer/elk into thicker timber and private land edges. By day 6, they’re nocturnal but return to feed at dawn/dusk. Focus on north-facing draws near water – they’ll still move there when pressured.

It gets pretty tough in units with very limited public like that. You just have to get lucky but if you spend enough days out there, one is eventually going to move on to public. It’s just a matter of being at the right place at the right time.
