Yeah it's probably not that much 15-20K. I see why they did it. Just sucks waiting that long. Archery hunt starts right after the draw.

Archery season starts September 1, draw date will be around May 20.

How much time do you need?

Yeah, the last thing to do is make changes that benefit biologists, wildlife, make sure the draw is equitable for both NR and R via following state regulations and statute.

Better to put convenience, selfishness, and greed in front of all that.

It was great when Residents got the full benefit of 100% of the tags from new seasons approved after the season setting meeting. Why worry about those pesky NR hunters?

It sucks having a conscience and putting wildlife, fairness in the drawing, and wildlife being managed via science ahead of things I would benefit from.

Well you should have pushed the application date back so everything was set before anyone had to apply for a tag that may or may not be available.

Your understanding of all things hunting, including the politics involved, is severely lacking...nothing new there. Being in the stands, rather than in the arena has consequences. Figured of all people, you would realize that by now.

Bitch to WOGA...the application deadline was their baby, not mine.

AND , wyoming gives NO refunds. So if you were to draw , say New Mexico, for example. Then you are out the money for one or the other. That , or just dont apply for NM or many other states. Depend on successful draw in WY and hope you arent left hanging.........

Like epstein.

Ya I guess to each their own but I’ll not be applying WY until I have points to %100 draw from now on. No way I’ll gamble on that. Most blue collar guys can’t either. Waiting 5 months on results is ridiculous.

Bud I live in Utah very aware of the politics of wildlife management everyone has an agenda that doesn't start or end at what's best for wildlife.
I will give it to you though because I didn't pay to have my opinion heard at the meetings it no longer matters and bitching about it now won't change anything.

...another benefit, might slow point creep and give those that apply higher draw odds.

Sounds like a personal problem. Make sure the tags you apply for don't have seasons that overlap, choose to apply in only one state, or eat one of the tags.

Also, you can withdraw or change your Wyoming application until May 8...you don't lose anything until the drawing is completed.

You have options...

Well we all have options and the point is for non res WY just became a crap option unless you have %100 chance of drawing. Hopefully WY will wise up and move app date to a reasonable time away from the draw date.

What? Your agenda isn't about whats best for wildlife...you live in Utah, intuitively obvious even to a casual observer...

Who woulda ever thunk it?

Not likely, Wyoming Residents, the Department, and Commission put wildlife and science based management first.

For the record, Wyoming draw dates are NOW about in line with the rest of the country, and for good reason as already noted.

Draw dates are one thing. I’m talking about app deadline being closer to the draw. Least AZ keeps getting it right.

Apply in Arizona then...Wyoming will sell every one of their elk tags and I bet applications increase again this year.

Of coarse I’m applying in AZ! What guy who likes elk doesn’t. Ya and money drives the world so I’m sure WY will sell out. Still don’t make sense what they doing.

Archery hunting the rut is not a "make sure seasons dont overlap" option. I would only apply in one state if i had 100% chance to draw that state. Funny how its not that hard to end up on the wrong side of 60% draw odds. Eating a tag without getting to hunt is most likely what i would end up having to. Changing my app is a possibility I guess.

I don’t fully agree with the application deadline so much earlier than the draw date but these changes to the WY elk process are MUCH better than before and Biologically make way more sense also.
I surely appreciate all Buzz and Jim did for this issue!
If a person is worried about conflicting hunts then they have a choice to either no apply for WY or choose a hunt that doesn’t conflict with other states. I personally like the option to modify my WY app also.

I don’t like holding my money that long, who would? The kicker for me is, I won’t know if I drew an elk tag before the deer deadline. I can’t afford to do both, so now I’ll be forced to apply for one or the other.

I am pretty sure you'll know the elk results before the deer deadline. WYOGA would not let that fly.

It changes the app strategy for sure. I bet WY will fix the issue of setting on apps that long.
