Well guys this years hunt isn't even here yet and I am already thinking of next years hunt. I was thinking about hunting the Wyoming range for archery elk. I know the rifle mule deer season starts September 15th. That's right when I would want to be hunting elk.
Has anyone elk hunted with the rifle season going on? What are your thoughts on this?
I am thinking either unit 90 or 94. I think these are deer units 142 and 144.
If you have archery hunted this area how many rifle guys did you see?

I just talked to a guy tonight that hunted that area last year and he said they left due to the rifle hunters. After about a week they would probably thin out but the pressure would probably screw things up a bit.

I've talked to quite a few people who have hunted that area and the comment I heard the most was that the deer hunters typically stay high and the elk hunters are down lower. They usually don't interfere with each other too much and if you do run into the rifle hunters they are usually willing to help you out with where they've been seeing/hearing the elk. I ended up archery hunting the Wyoming range for the first time last September and had no issues.

This would be my guess also. The deer hunters won't likely drop below the timberline.
