You will probably never draw a type 1 tag in area 100 unless you get extremely lucky in the random drawing (1/158 odds this past year). You are just too far behind in points and the points required is increasing by 1 point per year.

Area 7 will likely take you another 30+ years to draw unless you hit in the random drawing (1/53 odds this past year).

Point creep is very real and climbing. Area 7 has been climbing by about 1/2 point yearly. If everything stayed the same, you could draw when you had 16 points. However, it isn't going to stay the same. It is very likely Wyoming LQ tags are going to a 90/10 ratio. This reduction of tags will increase point creep to over 1 point per year for several years before it slows down.

Guys playing the PP game in Wyoming need to really evaluate their options. The DIY trophy hunts of the past for non-residents will be once in a lifetime hunts in the future. I personally believe most would be better served paying for private access in a general area if they really want to shoot a big bull.
If you were in my position what would be your realistic goals for a good Wyoming hunt?

If I were in your shoes, I would find a good friend to apply with and go in a general area and hunt your tail off. That doesn't give you the best chance at a trophy but it sure is fun.

Your best chance at a trophy with 6 points is private. If you choose to go that route, research like hell so you don't pay for a bad hunt.

Guessing quite a few people will be going that route with mid ties points. It's a good option imo before the extra non-residents are thrown into the general areas.

The BH units jumped, so I’ve made my mind up, I can limit a certain percentage of NRs who don’t want to deal with certain areas.

Just wish there was a way other than the obvious to split points between two people that have the same amount. Oh well, 1st world issues.

I hear you. I'm sitting on a whopping 1 point so I have a while to wait.

I do think your timing is good for the general tag hunt. I fear pressure increases after 90/10 are going to really degrade the general tag hunts. Wyoming will still sell the 7k+ non-resident tags, just going to be a lot more general issued.

Yup and many with 10+ will jump in once they realize their holding worthless pts outside of general tags, we’ll see a huge increase in pt creep for general tags.

I’ve hunted both Gen and LE in Wyo. And had both Reg and Special draws.

No comparison. You just never know how many people will be in the Gen area. At least you know how many will be in the LE area.

IMO - Id rather hunt more often, even with the added $$$ of Special

You’re gonna run outta health before you run outta money

There are many ways to look at it that's for sure. I just spent a whole day crunching numbers for WY, and the extra money isn't getting you much. AND, the point totals I currently have mean nothing when you see the jumps that have taken place. So, you could potentially sit out another year if the unit you pick get's saturated. I'm guaranteed a general unless I screw the app up.

And I do agree on the money part. To the spirit of this guys thread, 4 points is general land.

That depends... If they keep 7250 tags that will mean a lot more general tags available to non-residents.

Lot of truth to this.

That depends, lets say it doubles 500 tags in pts/ reduces these from the draw but there are now 5000 people that have just had the goal post moved 100%, thats only 500 more tags in the general pool with a possible 5000+ jumping on a general tag once they realize they will never draw.

I don’t know the actual numbers so those are just est guesses.

You don't think it will pass?
I doubt it from a task force recommendation for DEA. But, the legislature is another whole ball game...hard telling, not knowing.

The outfitters are ready to play ball on 90-10 for DEA, but what they want for their support of it is going to be a hard sell to the Resident hunters.

Bison, moose, goat, sheep, and grizzly is going 90-10 almost for sure, already a bill drafted by the TRW subcommittee. WOGA is in support of it as well.

@wapitibob , soooo, you’re saying there isn’t a chance to draw GEN tag as a second choice? LOL. “The good old days”. Gone! Had that happen a couple of times……about ten years ago!

You aren't wrong but I still believe a rookie stands a lot higher chance of an elk in an area like 100. An awful lot of guys go to Wyoming yearly on a general because they heard how great a hunt it was and come home without having an opportunity.
You might be right Laramie. I never hunted 100 so I don’t know. But I find that it’s not that hard to get away from people in general areas. Hunting is usually good enough that not that many guys get more than 2 air miles from the road as long as there’s a bit of an obstacle such as elevation gain. It wouldn’t be hard to have some peace and quiet if a hunter put the effort in to set a spike site. If you were to tell me the hunting was just easier I might look it over and think about spending double the money. But if the money was a big factor for someone I think they’d be satisfied hunting a general unit. Especially the guys who aren’t after monster bulls. But there’s a few of those too.
