Wyoming 5 points

[Short Track]

I have 5 points in Wyoming. Looking for a decent bull, nothing world class. Early Rifle only, as my knees & back are only getting older. I'm thinking I can hold off another year or 2. What unit is good with 6-7 points ??

Even though general tags will likely take 5+ PP this year...don't forget you can still apply to hunt this year as % of tags go to random draw...I know guys that have drawn random in each of last two years.
It's worth a shot as you don't want to plan on being able to draw in next couple years and point creep keeps jumping 1 PP each year.

I've never hunted WY so have no unit experience...but spending some time on this site and others will quickly show you WY has plenty of good hunting to offer - especially rifle success.

You can identify which units have early rifle seasons, and then you can see which of those were drawn with x number of points in a given year.

I drew 1st week of Rifle. Area 16, not sure if it's 16A or 16D. Tag code Elk 242. Any one familiar with this area? What airports are closest? How is the terrain ? Odds of harvesting anything ? Not even sure if this tag is either sex, or Bull only. All I know it's in the Gila...

Your five points guarantees you nothing. Your goal can be filled with a general license. If you want to hunt, you should apply this year. If you don’t draw, you can apply again next year. If you wait until next year, you may still have no guarantees. Looking at how many preference points you have will get you nothing. Go Hunt. That would be the short track to killing a decent bull.

With 5 points put in for the General tag. Nothing to lose, worst case you may draw in the Random draw. If you don't draw this year buy a point and roll with 6 points in 2026. At your point range General is the most viable way to go. If you've got bad knees maybe due a guided ranch hunt (if finances allow) or round up a few family members or friends to help you out. We all have only so many sunrises and opening days on Earth.

There are no specific units listed in the title or OP. This type of thread isn't a problem, it's the ones that list state and unit number. Even when they have been revised to remove the unit number, they still show up when you enter the associated (removed from thread) unit number into a Google search.
