Not an infraction …. No one cares about a speeding ticket bench trial…. This was a huge case.

My guess is the jury utilized common sense and said this is just ridiculous.

*30 years leo and have never lost a speeding ticket. Trying to compare a trial being watch by millions to a traffic ticket is laughable
Just because millions watched doesn’t mean it’s significant, as a leo would you now go do the same thing they did? I bet though the law becomes more clear in the future if this continues to happen.

This case had good marketing but it changes nothing for anyone but the 4 in the case and the exact facts of their case.

This case has changed a lot...if only obviously.

I feel more confident regarding the civil case. The Missouri4 are going to win that one bigly...and they should countersue Mr moneybags.
Same legal representation going forward, I assume?

I've seen some back and forth about the attorneys, personally I feel they were well represented. Opposing counsel in the civil suit will probably be a little higher caliber than the Carbon County prosecutor. Still, I feel pretty optimistic about the civil case.

Regarding a civil trial, depositions will be interesting on the Iron Bar Holding's side.

Any laws changed? Like you said before, this is only the 2nd time corner crossing has been in the courts, same outcome both times so what changed from the first case?

Be interesting to see if thousands of people do it this fall or even this spring shed hunting if it’s now felt precedent has been set.

What changed it was tried (unsuccessfully) via a citation being issued for criminal trespass versus title 23 trespass to hunt for a corner crossing case.

Wardens haven't written title 23 for a long time in regard to corner crossing.

I don't believe thousands of people will ever corner cross...a lot of hunters have a hard time ungluing themselves from a vehicle seat. Corner crossing requires effort, knowledge about maps, GPS, etc. Most won't bother, IMO/E.

But there are millions following in anticipation, I do agree with you, in the end this won’t really change much for the majority of people and maybe give a few a little more to think about.

Right, because even if people don't ever corner cross, maybe they're just sick of the influential/wealthy being the only people on planet earth that seem to matter.

“America has no king,” Semerad said. “Wyoming has no king, Carbon County has no king. There is no man [on] Elk Mountain who can make judgments on his will alone.”

Exactly. These guys got lucky and had a ton of people behind them morally and financially. What happens when there are 10 separate cases next year? Not every case is going to get the financial backing these guys had. I'm of course speaking in hyperbole but I'm curious to see how much really changes. Not everyone is going to be willing to burn weeks of vacation and 10's of thousands of dollars to fight a case.

No, it most certainly does not. This in no way sets precedent. Every case and it's details are different. But it's a step in the right direction. The law is still on the books that says airspace belongs to the property owner. Just because a jury found them not guilty doesn't erase that or make it not a law. A different court or jury could easily find someone guilty of the same offense.

And what happens when all 4 parcels are owned by different landowners? Which one owns the airspace and gets to chain out the others?

According to the logic of anti-corner crossing, if you stand in the corner of your own property, as your shoulers are wider than your feet, you are commiting at least two counts of criminal trespassing. Infact, putting your feet within 12 inches of your property line puts you in danger of criminal trespassing charges for violating the airspace of the adjacent property owner. You must now have a civil equivalent of a DMZ no mans land at all property boundaries to avoid criminal charges.

Throw the county attorneys and county sheriff out on their ears the next election...and fight the charges as they come up.

I bet Ashley Mayfield is looking for work here soon...and I don't think the sheriff of carbon county has a bright future either.
