Holy crap. I just won the elk lotto. I won a Wyoming commissioners tag. I can’t believe this. I don’t know when or where I’m going to go, or how I’m going to play hooky from work. Let alone the logistics of getting this done from the east coast… But this is actually happening. I can’t believe it! This is AWESOME.
Congrats!

I have always wanted to hunt the late season when the bulls are migrating out of the park. The odds of this for a MR, even with max points, is very very slim. These are back country hunts so an outfitter would be needed. There are a few other units that are considered late season but still weather dependent. The one sure late season that I was talking about occurs in December. An archery hunt is probably your best DIY option for a 350 type of bull. If there is any way you can find the savings for an outfitter I can provide a recommendation. Good luck

You may want to do research on where Randy Newbergs son killed a huge bull a few years ago. He didn’t advertise where in WY they were hunting but I believe folks figured it out. It was a rifle hunt and I think the bull was 350 or better. This was a total DIY hunt that probably requires a lot of prescouting and glassing to get one that big but it’s a start.

Curious how your hunt went and what unit you ended up picking ? I drew the Elk Super tag this year and am starting to research beyond the units I have already been applying for there . Lots of options , almost to many lol !

Regardless of the current political landscape, litigations going on, tag allotments etc etc.....you said it right...."lots of options"

Congratulations on the tag and good luck in the research! Im sure you will go hunt a great area.

I’ll absolutely keep you guys updated and probably do a live hunt thread for it. I’m still incredulous. I guess I can’t say that I’m unlucky or I never win anything! This is going to be awesome!

What happened man? Every time this thread pops back up I’m expecting to see a BOAL….

I ended up taking my son and had a great time. We saw more elk than I’ve ever seen, and it was a complete rut fest every day. I came very close to arrowing a 320 bull several times, once with my son next to me. I called a bull in from a mile away and put it almost on top of my son, and it bugled in his face and then came the rest of the way into my lap. I ended up shooting a bull on rifle opener later on in the hunt. I saw over 150 bulls, and had 4 other glassers in camp and we probably saw twice that number and no one turned up anything bigger than 320. So although that was a bummer, my son and I made great memories and we had an absolute ball hunting together.
