Antelope in western wyoming have been doing pretty good imo. Yeah Red desert looks awful. But I drive around the state quite a bit and I'm not seeing that much winterkill in other areas. Herd by my house is still healthy as ever and still has a ton of fawns in it.

Any reports in east of the big horns area, as to how there doing.
We have seen them bed down and never get up... dying in their beds here on our road East side base of mountains. I don't know what the total mortality is. We have five resident herds on our road between the house and town. They are all gone now. I assume they have moved to locate food, but they usually reside here year round.

manitou1:

What road are you referring to that leads from your place to Buffalo?

I have been driving the roads around Buffalo the last couple months and there are fairly good numbers of antelope along some of those routes and other routes, not so much.

I like the optimism some of you are feeling. The problem is areas that do make it through the winter will take more points to draw than they ever have because so many hunters will be forced into fewer areas. Lots of talk about people waiting a year but the reality will be plenty of people will apply driving point creep to new levels. If it took 2 points last year, I would plan on it taking 4+ this year.

the point creep continues. I am at 4 and will be waiting at least another year or two so (6) by the time i finally decide to make the trip.

Guessing you will be looking at the exact same areas you can draw. Might as well pick an area that took 2 last year and hunt this fall.

Maybe not CWD, but outbreaks of bacterial pneumonia have been killing hundreds, the last few years.

Talked with a biologist about this yesterday. Evidently this variety of pneumonia is really crushing the mature bucks in a lot of units, since they have so much more interaction with distinct populations of animals.

So, just something else to keep in mind... good idea to have "realistic" expectations if you burn points on a top end unit this year looking for a wall hanger.
