Wyoming antelope draw

I drew a tag in the Buffalo area. Fortunately but unfortunately I drew a banger elk tag that runs at the same time so I probably won't even get to hunt it.

That unit is always at least my second choice. But I live there, haha. Good luck on the elk!

Dad and I will be chasing speed goats end of Oct.

Never have and am convinced we will never draw antelope tags in wyoming. This state shits on residents. Thankful there are better opportunities in neighboring states.

I was successful because I'm "special." Not a prime unit but I don't care. I've hunted it 4 other times and had a blast each time and brought home some great meat. I went special because, at my age, I don't have time to accumulate points.

I can’t believe how bad this has become… we went 0/4 in a unit that used to be available as leftover tags. Then it went to second choice. Then it went to first choice with 0 points. Now it’s become this.

Drew but am going with an outfitter so my odds were much better. This will be my first non-deer big game hunt so I’m pretty jazzed.

And it’s not going to get any better. I am back to 3 points now and plan to wait another 4 years or so my daughter and I, when she’s 12-14 can do one fun daddy/daughter camping and hunting trip with the tag. It’s sobering to see the trend.

Did my first antelope hunt in 2017. Was a 0 point unit and had left overs prior to 2017. Got 4 does tags and was gonna get buck tag as leftover but nope, none available. Had a herd buck at 25 yards or less at first light opening day. Saw 7 bucks inside 250 yards and shot 2 yearlings, no does.

Next hunt was 2023 and did guided after 3 yrs of trying to draw what was a 1 pt unit in 2020.

Now saving points, #3 this year. Hoping 7 or 8 points will be enough next time I go or will just go guided again. But maybe will go guided for cow elk if spending the extra dime. Time will tell.

With the computerized companies helping folks choose tags, all bets are off. There are no sleeper units anymore.

This isn't even a sleeper unit. It's almost all private. It's where I have been taking my kids for years to introduce them to hunting.

Yes, competition for tags has gotten almost out of control. There was I time (it was awhile back of course) when I was a Wyo. resident that getting a tag and going Pronghorn hunting was all but a gimme. I actually got to hunt unit 60 3 times and took a 86" goat. That was before all that printed hype on the Red Desert got out. Just the overall increase in people population I guess and the demand for a limited quantity of opportunity. I think for a quality life we've reached (or over reached) human carrying capacity.

A buddy and I drew unit 44 tags with 6 points. Our first time in the area so it should be interesting!

It’s crazy to me how many more people are just saying F..k it and paying the special price because they want to go antelope hunting.
