Howdy y'all. I've been accumulating WY points since I moved to CO. I currently have 8 pts for elk, deer, and antelope.

I am somewhat unfamiliar with the WY draw system / tags. I get the special vs general and Res vs NR split. My question is about the regions (W/E/S) vs specific units. Seems like you can get a general/special tag for the W/E/S regions and hunt the "non-excluded" units (about half the acreage +/-), or apply for specific unit?

I applied with 8 pts for S, then W, then E in that order today - seems like the general tag draws out at 4-6 points for each general tag area. I figured, I've got 8 pts, no use in waiting to accumulate more if all it takes for a general tag is 4-6 (and I don't know enough about specific WY units to apply to a specific unit). Make sense? Am I missing anything?

PS any way to hunt Elk and Mule deer at the same time if i draw?

TIA!

Come, on man. You have been a member here for over four years and have a total of two posts. TWO.

Asking questions about certain areas is a violation of forum rules. Today's question comes on the day of the elk application deadline for WY, no less.

Good luck in the drawing. If you apply for a deer tag, I suggest you apply for an appropriate unit, such as unit 370HSSⱯ.

  1. Do not make your first post asking for knowledge of certain areas. Every year the members of Rokslide see the same posts regurgitated over and over again that look something like this....... "Hey guys, I drew unit 1234567 tag and never been there where is the best spots to go?" 90% of the time, this is the user's FIRST post, and many times their last post as well, as they never return to post on the forum again. People are more likely to share information with people they somewhat trust, (as much trust as u can give someone on an online forum anyway) that they have seen contributing to the forum, posting and commenting for some time etc. I guarantee there is a difference in the amount and type of feedback someone gets who posts the above question as their 1st post vs someone posting the same questions and it's there 500th post. In general I’d say make an introduction post, some congratulations comments or thanks for any helpful info you find, use the like button instead posting something like “good, okay”. Show some enthusiasm and initiative towards the hunt your asking questions about also gratitude to those who answer. Oh, a trip report is a great way to show thanks to the guy who shared their information with you.
  2. Now unfortunately we aren't letting FNG's (new guys) post up unit specific questions. Any unit question/answers remain out in the world wide webs forever, which can doom some really great spots.
