WY Corner crossing update

Been some naysayers who believe this case will not set precedent, which is true if it doesn't go to a higher court outside Carbon County.

Looks like things may be changing.

Four hunters charged with trespassing in Carbon County seek a federal court where their case could resolve the legality of corner crossing to access 1.6 million acres of public land across the West.

An attorney for the four Missouri men filed a petition in U.S. District Court for Wyoming on March 22 asking that judges move a civil case against his clients from Wyoming’s Carbon County District Court to the federal venue. Iron Bar Holdings LLC, which owns Elk Mountain Ranch and is managed by North Carolina mega-millionaire Fred Eshelman, filed the civil case earlier this year.

Following this very closely. Randy Newberg has done a few good podcasts on it.

The case seems to be moving in the right direction.

My only concern is there was not a lot of noise made by the plaintiff over the transfer. I wonder if it is something they want to happen also.

I doubt they wanted this to happen...tougher to influence federal judges.

I think you are correct with that. I'm just skeptical. I think when the case actually gets assigned a judge it may forecast a little bit of what is to come.

There have been cases in Wyoming of the Unlawful Enclosures Act being upheld by federal court, in the checkerboard area of Wyoming.

I believe this a positive move for public access getting the civil case to a federal court.

Buzz and other Wyoming residents. You say what’s on your mind and what’s important to you. I’m a non resident. I hunt Wyoming every year well most years. Keep doing what your passionate about. Even if feelings get hurt along the way.

Maybe I’m wrong but don’t think they are talking about those from WY posting on an internet forum only, maybe you did more then that but who knows, but it isn’t just for those that live in WY is my guess.

Personally I hope you do more for wildlife/access then just complain on the internet about NR hunters when replying thanks.

As much as Buzz is a PIA, no one can say he hasn’t put in the time and done a ton In WY.

Please don’t communicate with me. I’m not sure how the “ignore” feature works but I’ll give it a try. Maybe you could do the same? It might save some pointless back and forth.

Thanks!

Edit: I see how it works. I can’t read your comments. No point in either of us addressing the other person. ✌️

Hi welcome to the forum. I will be interested to see if your opinion changes in the years to come. Enjoy your wyoming hunts. Lots of fun there.

So, if we get the corner crossing issue resolved… what’s next on the agenda? There are still millions of acres of land locked lands you could only visit with permission of private property owner, helicopter, or if state enacted easements through private land. I’d like to see option number #3 come to life and taxpayers enjoy the public lands in this country rather than a rancher.

If the corner crossing issue gets ironed out, next thing I would like to see in Wyoming is stream access.

Everyone says how much we want youth involved in fishing and hunting and to get outdoors.

Yet, kids can't even walk down the ordinary high water line of a local stream and wet a line without being cited for trespass.

Not being able to throw an anchor on a stream bed and spend a half hour fishing is trespass?

What a joke.

This^^^! There SHOULD be access to these lands.

I can’t believe the complicated and contentious issues states are addressing in response to progressive and “woke“ agendas, but something like corner crossing and other common sense public land issues are so vehemently contested.

It‘s unreal.

Yea, i agree. By the numbers, it would make a much bigger difference in terms of youth participation in a state like Pennsylvania. If we are talk about stream access and participation, bang for the buck may not be in WY.

There should be a laws stating that ONLY federal employees and contractors (firefighters, law enforcement, park officials, etc) can access landlocked public land until such time public access is established.
