I just picked up an inReach SE and got it activated. While learning how to use this thing, I came across this service: WX2InReach - http://wx2inreach.weebly.com/ Sounds like a pretty handy tool to get a simple weather forecast sent to you while out in the backcountry. Has anyone tried it? If so, how did it work for you?

Worked awesome for me. You do have to plan a little bit when using it as sometimes the response is delayed. I usually send the request in the evening when I get back to camp, and I almost always have the next day's report before I hit the rack. I have set my request as one of my 3 preset messages so that it does not use up one of my quota messages, and I also add the io parameter because I find the forecast.io data better in the backcountry.

Well, I was just playing around with this at home. I set up one of my preset messages to go out to the WX2InReach service. Sent a message at 7:05pm, and got the reply with the forecast at 7:07pm. Not bad. It's very abbreviated, but hey, it would be better than nothing if you're out in the middle of nowhere.

It works great for what I need. Plus, the service itself is free! He does have a paypal donation link that you can use to thank him for his help. I am planning on getting a kestrel drop 3 for immediate data to use in firing solutions, but for a quick glance at the next day forecast, this is spot on.
