wrist sling or not?

I is there really a need for one on a parallel limb bow that seems to stay pretty dead in hand after the shot? I shoot with a relaxed hand , index finger curved around and slightly touching my thumb. Thinking of going sling less . Any thoughts?

For the last year I shot without one and just added one to see if it might help any. The jury is still out in my case.

A lot of times if I'm in a treestand I'll hang on to the sling and rest the bottom cam on my thigh when I'm waiting out a deer. The sling doesn't freeze your hand like holding onto a chunk of aluminum when it's 10 degrees out. (I can't stand wearing gloves). Other than that it's been pretty pointless for me.

I dumped mine 10+ years ago and don't miss it. The purpose is really more to subconsciously remind you to use good form and not grab or overly grip the bow than a specific mechanical aspect to improve the shot. I taught myself to just lightly tough the tip of my index finger and thumb to overcome the desire to grab the bow at the shot.

As proven by the trad guys, you don't "need" anything but a stick and a string.

I just like how my bow feels with the wrist sling, so I'll keep mine on. I am sure if I had to take it off I could get comfortable again.

Depends on the bow and how much it jumps fwd at the shot. I see some people shooting that clearly could benefit from one by the way they snake choke the bow as it goes off. And then others that dont need or use one.

I like having one on my bow...I think it helps me with grip consistency and there is a sense of security....had a d loop break at half draw while doing some tuning and the bow jumped out of my hands and bounced off my garage floor...was not a good feeling.

I only used one for a few weeks years ago when a bow I bought came with one. I am very simplistic and never saw a need to use it. I shoot just fine without as do the 2 other guys I regularly hunt with . Sling ? Nah.

Well I have been shooting over last couple days with no sling. I like it so far, does make it feel alittle naked though.

It not there for when everything goes right in my case, it's there for when a D-loop breaks or when I have an unexpected release of some sort and I don't want my bow to go clattering to the ground. That's an expensive repair.

I use one. It helps me in resisting the urge to grab the bow after the shot. I almost anticipate it and prob grab it at the same time.

ever see a bow slip out of someones hand at or near full draw? Not the string, the bow... It happens and without a wrist sling it is NOT pretty. I know that this is not the main reason to use it... but after you see a guy put a cable guard through his hand between his pointer and middle fingers and out above the wrist, you will never ever shoot without one.

I took mine off a while back. I shoot with a very relaxed hand/semi open. That being said, about a month ago, my mechanical release malfunctioned at half draw. Next thing you know the bow is flying behind the released arrow and I'm punching myself in the mouth... Aside from some embarrassment and confusion, I just make sure the bow is secure until I'm set at full draw. I do not like the slings.

I am in this camp. Keeps me from thinking about dropping the bow after the shot. Gives me a looser grip.

I dropped a bow on the floor demoing it once without a sling. I don't want to give up any accuracy when hunting without a really compelling reason. Giving up my sling means I would need to increase my grip on the handle. Not something I'm willing to do.

There is so little upside to not having one and so much upside to having it. Cheap insurance is also just peace of mind. And I can rock the green and gold so that's cool too!
