Would you gamble on a gen 4 Tundra?

I don’t get the hate for the rear leafs.
Some people just need something to complain about. Those packs actually worked out for some people that wanted a cush ride and didn't put much weight in the bed. If Toyota put Dakar packs in from the factory, there would be a ton of complaints about rough ride.

The nutty thing is that it's such a straightforward and simple fix. It's not worth being upset about.

The thing that baffles me is that the Toyota Sag is not a new thing. Its been a known problem for years.

I went down the rabbit hole a year ago because I needed a new pickup. Wanted a midsize so I had three choices.

Tacoma - Known issues with the leaf springs.
Ranger - Known issue with turbos needing replaced around 150K
Colorado - Known issues with the transmissions.

Any reasonable person could look at that and make the decision on which one will be the easiest and/or cheapest to have replaced. I can upgrade the entire suspension on a Tacoma for less than turbos or a transmission cost.

1st gen Tundras are probably one of the best pickups ever made. They have known issue of weak lower ball joints but a motor that will go 250K plus on basic maintenance....I can replace a lot of ball joints for the cost of a motor replacement.

Dont bring common sense into this!

Those leaf springs and rust really hurt his feelings and that matters more.

I drive an F-350........and I love Toyota's. Like was said earlier......they're all just a tool, and they all have a purpose. That's why I have the F-350, a Tundra, and my '89 Toyota 4x4. They all have strengths and weaknesses. But if I have to admit it, the Tundra is the one that is expendable if I were to get rid of one of them.

IMO my '89 3.0L 4x4 xtracab is one of the best vehicles ever made. I STILL love that pickup, and it still does whatever I want it to do.......and is still all stock.

Ya, the 2001 4runner I drive is the best vehicle I've ever owned. 180k and still no squeaks or rattles on gravel roads. It's an amazing vehicle. Bought a 2002 Camry for our kid last night from a guy with a 2003 4runner with 180k, same story with both of those.

Funny thing is my gen is known for frames rusting away, and it's true, and his is known for blowing head gaskets at low miles. Every vehicle has its problems.

Just sucks everything has become so overly complicated. I would buy a new Toyota 4X4 if it was built like they were in 1989. We rented a 2025 4runner for a trip to Moab this spring. It's a nice vehicle but damn it has a lot of buttons. I don't know who wants all that crap but it sure isn't me.

If you want to Venmo me the $1100 Toyota screwed me out of, I will accept it.
Otherwise, don't let my facts hurt your tender Toyota devotion.
You can also compensate the poor suck that bought my frame-rotted Tacoma while his fanboi buddies bragged about how reliable Toyotas are.

Unfortunately, my 2016 Tundra has too much noisy plastic in the dash to not have any squeaks or rattles........even on smooth pavement. That, the automatic transmission, and the traction control are my only complaints though. My '89 is still tight.......and quiet, even on washboard. Oh ya, and that skid plate on the Tundra is a pain in the rear to get back on easily with those deep recess bolts.

ill do you one better and send you some materials to build a bridge over that river of tears from your pain and suffering.

I would not just yet. I think the V8 2.5 gen is the best one even with miles on a used one.

Maybe I’m not a heavy hauler but never been let down what I need to haul in my 14 tundra. It pulls the dog clubs 16 ft enclosed trailer no problem.

Gotcha a full load there.

#tundraputtinginthework
Don’t worry, will be bloody come August when the season opens here. I shot 15 with the stick bow least season, plus pigs lol.

I do find it amusing since I’ve had dozens of 3/4 diesels as well. Truck guys are superrrr weird and loyal when it comes to brands and how many lugs a truck has haha.

I’ve made a boat load flipping old pre emissions diesel. Every single one has needed major work, no matter the brand.

Toyotas have always been good to our family over the last 25 years. Basic maintence that’s it.

Never had a dodge that didn’t eat trans or clutches, never had a duramax that didn’t eat injectors, never had a ford that didn’t constantly need everything,

Not to mention they rode terrible unloaded, nor even close compared to a 1/2 ton. Yes I’ve had nice set ups. Full Carli pintop with kings on my 07 Cummins. Still not even close to as smooth as my 18 pro or this 25 off road.

so you can get a 3rd gen turd now or wait and get a 4th gen turd.. 🤔

The only thing Tundras had going was the reliability and that is long gone with these current models.

413,000 on mine so far. No tranny issues.
Replaced the clutch at @ 300,000 just because.
Just saying.
My stock clutch lasted like 20k with the 200hp tune, put a south bend dual disk in and it lasted over 100k. Truck made over 650 to the rear. Every stock 47/48re auto I had cost me 5-8k to build to hold the power levels I wanted.

Diesel game was fun but it’s a spendy one as well.

The Dodge automatics are trash.
Surprised you tried to put any extra power through it.
A truck shouldn't have an automatic anyway. Or computer screens.
Or trailer backup assist. Or proximity sensors.
:)

Whoopi and Joy hate facts, too.
I guess you found your niche.
You know what the funniest thing is? Nobody is actually refuting the fact that the leaf springs are too soft. That's commonly known and agreed upon by many. People are disagreeing with you that it is a severe enough problem to never buy a Toyota. Especially when you compare it to the other known problems with similar manufactures.

I hate to break it to you but it is not a fact that you shouldn't buy a Toyota due to that problem. That is an opinion.
