Would you buy this scope?

I personally wouldn’t buy from someone who did that, but I’d expect him be able to sell them all within an hour of listing them on the classifieds at $1250 each and within a day at $1500 each. It also wouldn’t surprise me if he was able to sell them all via PMs for $1200 each within twenty minutes of posting that picture.

Good for him! I have nothing against it. Assuming he keeps a few an extra 3500-9000 will pay for a couple hunts. I’m just not that brave I guess ha ha

I was spending some time looking at the THLR reticle dimensions now that it's not a rush situation. At first I just saw the center dot was .145 Mil thick and thought, damn that's a really bold reticle. But said, oh well, and went with it anyways.

But it's really not a thick reticle as a whole. That's JUST the center dot. The graduations and wind holds are all in that .06 thickness ranges which really makes sense. Because you're normally only holding the center dot on where you're wanting to hit at relatively close yardages and moderate conditions, or just shooting groups. Anything 600+ is likely to have some sort of wind hold which will be utilizing the more modest thickness portions of the reticle. Even a 1/2 MOA dot can easily be used as an aim point at 1000 yards on a deer. I just thought it was a little unnecessary was all. But in reality, that center dot will almost never be used as the aim point at 1000 yards.

Just something that came to mind is all.
I only have one rifle with a dot reticle. The rest of the reticle on that particular scope is garbage - great for holdovers at absurd distances but useless once the sun goes down - but man, that dot is just plain fun to shoot. I get why our grandparents raved about shooting with dot reticles. I can't explain what's different about them, I can only say I enjoy shooting with the dot.

In that regard I think people are gonna like the dot a lot for distances and scenarios where the dot itself is the aiming point. A lot of the wind-related stuff on the THLR would be lost on me - because I don't shoot in much wind very often and have no intentions of shooting at all, at game, in higher winds at longer distances, much less on multiple animals at a time - but the bold outer crosshairs will be awesome for low light, and the dot will be quite fast.

That's either a high level of confidence, quite a need or a high level of speculation. Good luck

Edited to add: arguably someone could have bought all 500 and secondary marketed them.
I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that ryan would cancel that order and permanently ban anyone trying to do that.

20 might get the same treatment?

I don't think money was the reason to limit it to 500. They've only tested 3 samples so far. If they did 2000 and there was an issue with them, that'd be a huge problem. I think they want to make sure they are what they seem before they start selling them like hotcakes.
Ya you can only imagine what it will cost them if there’s problems even with 500.

@Billy Goat

You guys actually plan on reselling these?
I presold the presale, Ive been pumping the scope and all those guys are not on here and or have the time to sit and monitor for drops.. I do the same for the stock, MKC drops and some others. It started out just helping guys but it got to be enough I started charging finders fees... when Idaho had the old NR system I would have 10+systems in the Q for guys that have real jobs and cant sit around for 12 hours trying to buy a tag..

Buying extra to purposely resell on here, is actually against the rules. If folks are selling them elsewhere that is their prerogative. If someone flipped one they can claim it was for personal use, a pile of them not so much. But that is entirely at the owners discretion how they want to handle the violation. Its not buying at wholesale but its not buying for personal use. I personally don't care I am just pointing it out for the unaware so they don't get themselves banned doing something:

You must be a sponsor to post on here if you make any product for resale or buy a product at wholesale to resell. Doesn't matter if you're a declared business entity or not. This forum is for re-selling personal gear you purchased for personal use.

Sorry I had to. But yeah I agree, buying a pile because you were one of 7 people that were notified of the preorder after 18-24 months of buildup to thousands of forum users is pretty petty. If the idea was to resell we can only hope supply is robust enough to meet demand and prevent the $600 SWFA (that frequently went on sale for $450-$480) selling for $800 etc. I bought two because I’m pretty well assured I’ll really really like the scope at which point I’d want atleast 2, and probably more.

Actually 20 shouldn’t have been allowed.
That’s something they can learn from.
I can see someone want two for a training rifle and there main rifle, maybe one for a kid as well.
Three should be plenty for something that a lot of guys want.
If you want 20 and order 3 each month you wouldn’t have your orders in in 7 months.

How crazy would it be if there was some type of electronic device that allowed you to both visit online forums and manipulate images?

I'd be surprised if anyone here bought more than a handful, and even more surprised if they did so with the sole intention of flipping them. If anything maybe "if I love it I could use three but if I don't I could sell one or two"
