Just got word I drew the lucky RMBS statewide big horn tag for the 2025 season and I'm still trying to pinch myself to see if it's real.

Now the fun begins! I've ran into sheep across CO while I lived there over the last 5 years, but no mega rams, wasn't necessarily looking for sheep when I've come across them. Helped a buddy pack his sheep out last year so I've got some very good intel into one unit, but it's not a giant ram area. Having a state wide, any season tag is giving me anxiety of where to start and focus. Have been digging through the CPW harvest data, which is great, but overwhelming. Goal would be to do DIY archery as I've done for almost all hunts, given the benefits of this tag, I'm not opposed to a guide or picking up the rifle. Any contacts or insight is appreciated. Feeling very blessed and looking forward to an amazing experience.

Wow! Congratulations dream event right there. I’ve killed a few rams in the state DIY, but don’t have a ton to offer other than enjoy! I’d like to think November December is when you have the potential to arrow a crusher!

How does the tag work? Any unit as long as a season is open somewhere in the state? Meaning you could hunt the unit before the public tags ? Or does the unit you hunt have to be open in order to hunt it?

That's the goal, enjoying every second of this process.
What I've been told so far, the tag is good for any unit that's open and you have to follow weapon regs for that unit but it's fair game across the state from when the season opens to when it closes.

Congrats on the tag of a lifetime and then some! I had that tag in 2008 and I hunted several units archery and rifle units from Aug 1st until November 20th when I killed this ram. You can hunt any open unit once it is open with the legal/open method of take,. You can hunt archery in archery only units and rifle once a unti is open for rifle season. The biggest bonus to the tag is you can hunt all open units until December 31st. You can hunt any unit even if there is not a non resident tag available. If I had the tag again I'd make sure you let many of the guides and outfitters know you have the tag incase they see a monster after the regular seasons are closed. I'd make sure I had some time to come hunt in mid November after most of the other seasons are closed. Big rams tend to show up for the rut and disappear before then.

Good luck!

Congrats man! What an opportunity on such a unique, phenomenal tag. Best part … ya won it!

Congratulations on drawing your bighorn sheep tag. Enjoy the hunts. Post a few pictures and stories after the season, if possible. Happy hunting to all, TheGrayRider a/k/a Tom.

If you are interested in killing the biggest ram possible, the more you get the word out in your network and online the better. Especially if most of the other hunts are over, if you are still hunting, keep letting people know, online as well, that you are still looking, many will be willing to share what they have seen or are seeing at that point, or willing to go check a likely spot for you etc.

Congrats on the tag, pretty special to win that. Theres a group of guys in colorado who seem to know where all the biggest rams in the state are. If i had that tag and was after the biggest ram i would reach out to Trey Milhoan from Capra Guides. His network seems to find and kill the biggest rams the state has to offer. I dont know him personally but follow on social media. Good luck!

Great insight, appreciate the background and recommendation on making time late season. I’ll be starting to make some phone calls this week and will report back with how the season progresses.

Congrats on the tag! I don't think you'll regret sticking with archery if that's how you typically hunt, you have the extra season to get it done...

Wow!! Such a lucky draw! Congratulations. I hear you on the archery stuff, but I also understand stepping up to the rifle due to the rarity of the tag draw. Id personally go with the bow, particularly like you said, you've harvested most everything else with one. And I'd definitely use a guide. Go big!

How much in savings or home equity do you have? S79 has the biggest rams in the state for a heavy trespass fee.

And before I get blasted for stating a specific unit, this is like saying there are huge bucks on Antelope Island.

Didn't you win some NLs?

Luckiest streak of a few years in CO drawings; you need to sell your bodily fluids.

Depends if I want to stay married or not. That is a top contending unit but boy it's a lot of private...
