I just hunt to pass the time until winter steelhead season

Nordic ski, backcountry ski and upland hunt. It feels like I'm in better shape come March than I was going into hunting season.

Ice fish. if/when I have enough room to store a sled, I’ll buy an older phazer or something like that to rip around on. Pick an older sled up for a couple grand then could hit the lighter mountain lakes etc out west. Also like Predator hunting/ trapping.

I like to tinker, usually have a rifle or shotgun I’m restoring as well. Started doing some leatherwork building knife sheaths, also do a bit of forging and heat treating, welding etc and wrenching. Hand loading ammunition. Shooting bow etc.

Skiing, my one daughter loves x country skiing. Cooking outdoors on an adventure drive with the family.

Don’t seem to have a problem filling in time. Wish alll year/ all seasons were a bit longer.

What do you folks do to not only pass time, but actually enjoy the cold, snowy weather for several months of the year in the PNW/Canada?

Curious to see what others are doing, the usual answer of "snowboard and snowmobile" can't be the only things people are doing.

Also, what about getting into the mountains during the melt when there's still a good amount of snow. Snowshoeing and tracked up ATVs? A tracked vehicle is quite a damned investment to make.

Can upland hunt until the end of January. February is usually spent icefishing or snowshoeing. Usually by the end of February, Idaho Fish and Game has volunteer opportunities open. I chased wolves earlier this year until the snow crusted, then that fun kinda ended.

Not even close. Go to the bar give them a $1 at a chance to win $20 in meat (steaks, roast, pork) what ever the butcher comes up with. 10 different games 10 packages of meat. 1 in 30 chances of winning.

Haha. I remember my wife and I walking into some tiny bar on northern Vancouver Island and getting asked if we wanted to enter the “meat raffle”—won a ham! So random. Is it a Canadian thing?

Indeed I am, and indeed it is. I've been debating a lot lately of moving to the gulf coast or investing in more recreational toys and staying put. Tracks are a big investment for a quad.

Just weighing ideas and looking at the future, kinf of up in the air with it all.

Lol, not sure. But I know its a Minnesota thing.

I spend all twelve months getting out in the mountains. Backpacking, snowshoeing and backcountry skiing in the winter. Will often rent Forest Service cabins that have to be reached on foot as well.
