Big Toe Joint Pain

I think the no footwear is part of the equation, initially at least. I'm to the point now where 8 have house shoes. They are nothing special. What insoles do you have? Can't hurt to try.
Best $60 I ever spent. Actually, I now have them in nearly all the shoes/boots I use regularly.

Sounds similar. Although i wasn't running ultras around the office haha.

Super stiff shoes definitely help. What lasportivas do you like?
Here is a link they are a low top GTX super stiff soles. Great for walking with weight and they've held up incredibly well. I thought it would never go away, but its completely gone now. https://www.backcountry.com/la-spor...032571638_ad-_pla-4580565455873195_dev-c_ext-{extensionid}_prd-LSP00JS-CARGN-S38_mca-171_sig-989a2cd3e26c104318174ab090c59107&gclid=989a2cd3e26c104318174ab090c59107&gclsrc=3p.ds&msclkid=989a2cd3e26c104318174ab090c59107

So all you did that helped was wear stiff shoes?

Ice or anything else help?

I get gout sometimes. Cut out booze and red meat. A buddy that has gout swears cutting caffeine is important too.
My first gout attack was brought on by beer and BBQ. The point of attack was a damaged ankle.
Last attack, I've no idea what brought it on, but it was a big toe attack.
I drink three 8 ounce cups of coffee every morning. Don't think caffeine is a gout trigger. Well, not for me anyway.

What the OP is describing doesn't sound like gout.
If it were me, I would find a reputable orthopedic doctor and go from there.

I have a similar but different issue that started in 2018. Xray said there was a bone chip causing bone growth. It's creating something like a bunion. It basically prevents my big toe from flexing up beyond straight. He gave me a cortisone shot at the time, and it really helped. It still bugs me here and there, but it isn't bad enough to get it fixed.

His solution was to permanently attach the big toe to the foot. Wasn't wild about that. When it gets babd enough, I'll get a second opinion.

Grinding the bone doesn't sound horrible. My only suggestion is to find a place that specializes in what they are doing. Someone that only does feet.

Dont disagree with you about anything you said. Coffee doesnt impact my gout but like i said a buddy swears its a trigfer for him. As far as what op has, talk to your dr. If there is any chance its gout take a little break from beer and red meat.

I limit my red meat to weekends now and its helped a lot. Those days are extremely holy now as i take the steak to the blessed pellet grill alter.

I believe that was the biggest factor yes, and avoiding walking with weight on in my soft soled running shoes. Totally good now but it hung around for about 2 years. Stubborn issue.
