Looking to set up my Winchester 94, which I believe is a top eject. I guess I mean, yes obviously the action opens on top, but I think there were some that pushed a spent shell off to the side and I don’t believe mine is.

I believe for that reason a scope is out unless I run one scout style on the barrel, are there any good peep sight or aperture sights yall recommend over the rough factory sights

There’s a special place in the eternal hot box for people that put glass on a Winchester repeater…

Skinner Sights makes a very nice and adjustable peep sight that can mount to the action or one that’s forward mounted to the barrel where the buckhorn sights go.

I mounted a Leupold vx3 1.5-5x20 on my ‘94 44 Mag. Ejects fine and helps better than the iron sights.

If it’s an Angle Eject it will have the spring steel extractor mounted on the right hand side of the bolt instead of the top. It will also have a very small “port” on the right side of the action that corresponds to the ejector placement. I believe most if not all of them were drilled and tapped for scope mounts having one hole on each side of the bolt at the rear and two in line on the front receiver ring where the barrel is screwed in.

All that said and as much as I don’t care for 94’s I find them ill balanced with a scope and much more suited to a peep. I would look for an old side mount Lyman, Redfield, or Pacific with a steel base and slide. If you don’t want to spend that kind of money or don’t have the patience to wait for one to come up for sale the aluminum Williams 5D is perfectly serviceable if not as nice as the older steel sights. Any of these will screw onto the two 6-48 holes in the left side of the receiver.

Alternatively I am pretty sure there’s more than one outfit making a mount for an RMR type dot that mounts in the receiver sight holes so that is an option too.

I appreciate everyone. It’s a 1983 build, it also has the extractor at 12 o’clock and barrel stamped 94, not 94ae. For those reasons I believe it’s a top eject 30-30. I have a few marlins in 30-30 w scopes. This rifle is so clean and original, I think I’ll order the Williams fp I think is what it is called that mounts on the rear of the receiver. I know it’s not a crazy distance further back than the rear blade, but I assume any distance created from rear sight to front may help w accuracy.

I have an extra open emitter holosun I was gonna run on a dovetail mount in replacement of the rear blade, but I personally think it would be against the firearms gods to vandalize such a rifle. If I had another , maybe.

I inherited my great grandfathers. It’s a top eject and has the scope mounted off to the left side. It hasn’t been shot in years but I believe it’s a weaver 3-9. Not sure what brand the mounts are

Need to see a picture of this

A peep will be more accurate for most shooters verus a blade sight. The Williams is a good one

I inherited one from my uncle that already wore a side mounted scope. Aside from looking terrible it’s just fine for 30-30 range.

Yea, I have my Christensen ridgeline fft for any real distance. I got a few spots where 75 yards is a far poke.

Wild. Don’t hold over to the left?
You mean when zeroing or face position on the rifle stock?

It’s not uncomfortable to use the scope. Just a slightly offset cheek weld. The irons are still visible as well.

It’s not meant to be a long range rifle. I can’t imagine my great grandfather ever used it over 100 yards.

That’s a Weaver side mount. Good possibility the scope was made by Weaver under contract for Sears. Probably got the gun and the scope both from Sears since that is a “Ted Williams” post 64 Win94.

As of 8 years ago when I was still in the gun business those Weaver mounts were still available. I wouldn’t be surprised if they still had them for sale at Brownells.

I have a similar situation.

Rifle currently wears a peep while I search for the original peep that my dumb a$$ broke years ago handling the rifle carelessly

Ive considered one of the setups that would allow me to mount a red dot without any permanent modifications to the rifle.

Peep is fine for inside of 100 yards, though

The red dot is awesome, I’d prefer a holographic, they work well, I would just prefer a peep for nostalgia

Looks like I misremembered. It’s a fixed 3x sears scope.View attachment 881498

Ah yes, the ol’ weaver side mount. I never really understood the desire for that setup. With a good Lyman or Marbles tang sight you’d arguably shoot more accurately than with the offset scope. But that’s just one guys opinion. Thanks for sharing.
