Winchester 70 Stockys VG Review

Looks good. Interesting that they got the trigger reach correct on these versions and whiffed so badly on the Tikkas.

If you find yourself needing some texture on that stock, shoot me a PM…

They whiffed harder on the Howa, that was the longest. Tikka a little shorter, my M70 is as good as my rokstock

Are you getting the mag box snapped in to the bottom of the action, I know that mag box has that little lip in the back of.

I have play in mine and also had to switch to the 1 piece bottom metal, torqued down to 50in lbs on the action.

I know not the perfect solution either but adding a few washer to create some clearance. I did that to make my 2 piece work while I waited for my 1 piece to show up.

I thought I was, but not 100% sure now.
It’s at the gunsmith getting the barrel cut and threaded. May have to take a drive.

Following.
I think I’m going to be putting a 308 barrel on my tikka 243 and building a 6 creed out of a Model 70 stainless. Been thinking about a stockys VG as well. Anyone speak with stockys recently to address the fitment and bedding issues??

My buddy just put one on his custom build, same issues of fitment so a year after I ordered mine. They have been made aware of the issues from several people, and have been sent this thread as well.

Honestly if they just made a touch more clearance for the bolt release, and a more generous trigger well. It would be fine.

I’m still really happy with mine and don’t plan to change it

I kind of “roll” mine into make sure that lip get tucked up under the receiver where it’s meant to sit.

It will be obvious cause as soon as you put your bottom metal on it won’t sit flush. Mine will ride high on the back when not properly seated.
