Rattling sound in Stockys VG

Seeing if anyone has any experience with a rattling sound that has developed in my new Stockys VG. Stock did not arrive with it and I’ve handled it a bunch. If I didn’t have so much work into it I’d just call them up. I bedded a howa mini yesterday, popped it out this morning. It took a few good hits to pop it but nothing extraordinary. Removed barreled action to admire my first bedding job and quickly heard what can only be described as little pieces of stuff rattling around in the butt. I haven’t messed with that area at all but guessing that the impact to pop the action out broke some foam or fill loose.

No biggie, right? I’ll remove the recoil pad and get it out of there. They glued the F$&King thing on!

Any suggestions? I don’t believe it will hurt the stock in any functional way. You have to shake the stock to get it to rattle, But it will bug me.

Do nothing and live with it? Won’t hear it while shooting.

Drill a small hole and fire some thin epoxy in there to see it I can tame whatever came loose? It’s still raw carbon and will be painted.

Any experience removing one of these recoil pads?

I’ve probably voided warranty as I drilled into it up front for a Spartan gunsmith plug and a UM Spartan/pic rail.

I had one do this and I called them- I thought the recoil pad was glued on but it wasn’t- they told me the size driver I needed to get the recoil pad off and I was able to get a piece of fill out of there

I already pulled the screws on the recoil pad. It’s glued on. I’ll call them sometime after Christmas and see if they can help.

With screws out, did it require prying it off? I didn’t try that because I’d be prying against a raw edge of the carbon and would likely chip or crush it.

Check the rear swivel sling stud? I have unscrewed the recoil pad in other Stocky VG. Hmmm..

Stud is tight and not the source of the sound. Looks like there is a t nut in there. I was thinking I could use it as a place to possibly inject some thinned epoxy into the stock to capture whatever bits are rattling around in there. That will be a last resort.

I had to pry on it but I didn’t go off the raw edge I stuck a thin screwdriver through the bottom hole in the pad that the screws came out of and pryed against that- mine wasn’t glued but it was definitely incredibly snug- definitely no T nut inside there- I had though the same thing- I had another one that didn’t have a rattle but the back sling stud was loose and drilled out too big and had to epoxy it in place.

Appreciate the info. Makes sense. If mine isn’t glued on it sure is stuck on there pretty well, but sounds like that’s normal based on your experience. Once it was off were you able to get it back on easily? Is it press fit in the butt of the stock or something?

Ya once I got mine out I was able to put it back on no problem- I was a little bit underwhelmed with looking at the fill inside the stock, idk what I expected but it definitely wasn’t what I expected- i wouldn’t necessarily call it press fit, as the screws were able to pull it back down into place no problem- but it surely fit super super snug- that’s not to say yours might not be glued on but from my experience it wasn’t glued it was just insanely tight to get out- for what it’s worth Stockys did offer for me to send it back to them and have the take it apart and remove the rattling piece- so they did stand behind it, but I was able to do it myself once I was less worried about breaking it after talking to them. Fit and finish on these stocks definitely isn’t always top notch, but for the price you pay for them I think they are very very hard to beat

This… There is no t-nut, just the carbon and epoxy. I don’t use it so never an issue for me. But, it popped out on a friend.

I add a qd cup, and the pad has come off every time. It was a non issue I can’t remember anything about it.
